The Adventurer welcomed Jose Luis Barzuna on February 9 and this guy was on the fish early and often.

This small fish were a nice icebreaker, but the true fish-of-a-lifetime came calling in the afternoon:

Wow! That is a grande Sailfish even by Costa Rica standards. Estimated by Captain Carlos at over 150lbs., this monster was safely released as usual.

Amazing action from the awesome Adventurer!

Gordon Nielsen started his multi-day Costa Rican fishing trip with Captain David on the Explorer on February 9, and he got acclimated to the blue water battleground early and often.

This big Dorado was the first fish in the boat, then the Explorer was beset by some big Sailfish

This trio of nice releases is a great start to the week for Gordon…let’s hope for more great catches for Mr. Nielsen.

Harris Savin took the Adventurer offshore today and was rewarded with a fine Pacific Sailfish release. Seeing the mountains less than 5 miles from shore reminds us that the 1600 ft ledge is not out of reach for the 23-foot switchblade.

This excellent release was followed up a pair of 25lbs. Dorados for the dinner table.

The final score of the day was this magnificent Rooster fish release:

Great action on just a half day trip…it’s what we have come to expect from Captain Carlos and the Adventurer.

William Donough enlisted theย Explorerย on February 7 and Captain David set the super panga right in front of a swollen school of Sailfish.

These monsters came in hot and heavy all afternoon; as soon as Mate Kevin turned one loose another big one came flying through the spread.

The baits were definitely looking tasty, as this frigate bird couldn’t resist a rigged ballyhoo.

We do occasionally get a bird snagged in the lines, but we make sure they are safely released just like the billfish.

By then end of the half-day trip the Explorer had notched five safe Sailfish releases…excellent day by Captain David!

Chad Langley and the boys finished off their week of furious fishing with more Sailfish release and some excellent eating fish on the Wanderer.

Chad tried to give the Sailfish an early Valentine’s Day present: a little kiss upon release!

They rounded out the day with Dorados and a tasty little Yellowtail Snapper.

You gotta love this itinerary: 6 nights in Nosara, 5 days of fishing!

The hardcore angling quartet of Ben James, Brad Simons, Chad Langley, and Kevin Poole began their fishing odyssey on board the legendary Explorer on February 2.

To say they got off to a fast start is the understatement of the year:

This high-flying Striped Marlin ain’t the biggest bully in the schoolyard but he had moves like a welterweight champion.

Chad put the screws to this fish as Captain David did everything he could to keep her centered behind the cockpit.

Finally they got the fish alongside and the fearless Captain Carlos (on loan from the Adventurer) executed a perfect billshot and release.

Later Ben got into it with a very aggressive Sailfish, but once again this billfish was no match for the barroom brawler Explorer.

These boys didn’t go hungry either, as Kevin KO’d this nice Dorado and Brad added a tasty White Tuna.

Good start to what should be a legendary week of hardcore fishing.

David Svec and the boys hit the water hard on the Wanderer today with hard-biting action to report. Right off the bat they nailed a big Dorado, then set course for Sailfish City.

The Sails bit aggressively and gave these Massachusetts anglers all the fight they wanted.

Good safe releases by First Mate Alex to ensure the survival of these spendid Sailfish.

A second Sailfish came calling in the early afternoon and this posse made quick work of him.

David and the crew have a trip scheduled on the Explorer this week and we are looking forward to their results.

February 5, 2014

Kurt Gresenz and Thomas Gargan enlisted Captain David of the legendary Explorer to guide them to Sailfish City.

Little did they know that the biggest Wahoo of the season was stalking the super panga’s spread.

This monster easily weighs 60lbs. and might be 70.

With the filets on ice it was time for the mission at hand: Sailfish skirmishing!

By the end of the day Mate Kevin had four safe releases.

Great fish handling and awesome hunting by Captain David.

February 4, 2014

The Explorer was pleased to welcome Tobias Marcuy and his group for a fish-filled day on the blue water.

This group had five Sailfish releases with some beautiful photos to show for it.

Check out this bright blue! Great work by Mate Kevin to keep these still-green fish under control. Safe releases all around make for a perfect day!

They also nabbed a pair of Dorados for the icebox; one came early in the day, the other was the last fish in the boat.

Excellent work by Captain David and the legendary Explorer!
