Our old pal George Kommick had a wonderful run of trips with Captain Fico from July 15 to July 18th. The first day they filled the refrigerator with a wide array of tasty filets.

The highlight of the week came with the capture and release of this high-flying Blue Marlin:

Estimated around 400lbs., this is clearly a memorable catch for this great angler.

Jacksonville’s own Brian Dutcher, Jose, and Bubba from the Lil’ Hooker Fishing Team had a big time on board the Discoverer as Captain Carlos kept them on the fish.

Spinning porpoise pods led the way to the action and the weapon of choice was top-water plugs on spinning tackle.

These guys could barely get the hooks back in the water before enduring another wave of Yellowfin Tuna attacks.

With all these Tunas on ice, Mate Kevin was more than willing to share his fileting duties with Mr. Dutcher.

All in a day’s work for the big battleship Discoverer.

The Harvester welcomed one of FishingNosara’s oldest friends Roche Jaggeli of Playa Avellanas for a great day of action on June 6.

Roche has fished with us since the very beginning of FishingNosara and it’s always a treat when he comes south to visit us.

The day’s haul was highlighted by three big Yellowfin Tunas (60lbs., 34lbs., and 26lbs.) and of course the MASSIVE 54lbs. Dorado.

The legendary Dan Johnson rejoined the Wanderer for a billfish hunt on February 27, and along with his daughter Delaney Johnson scored a big Blue Marlin backed up by a nice Sailfish.

This monster weighs well over 300lbs. and is certainly a breathtaking achievement.

Delaney’s Sailfish was no slouch either, putting up a big fight on the way to a safe release.

Jerome McKown’s boys from Texas continued their hot fishing with Captain Alex on February 2. The Harvester headed off-shore and found the waters thick with Sailfish.

Everyone had multiple shots at big Pacific Sailfish.

Excellent fish handling by Mate Kevin to execute all these safe releases.

Captain Alex proves once again why he is Garza’s fastest rising star!

The Harvester found gold with Craig Sutton nabbing a 150+lbs. Yellowfin Tuna on August 12.

Craig casted for this monster over a pod of spinning porpoises and brought him home with an efficient 25 minute fight on a Penn Slammer spinning reel.

It’s rare to see a fish the Captain Alex can’t lift off the deck, but this one fits the bill.

Fellow anglers Kim and Lloyd Michael were on board and scored an excellent Sailfish release, plus added their own meat with a 50+ lbs. Dorado.

Great day on the Mega Panga!

Paul Reynolds took a victory lap on July 29 as his last day of fishing yielded another fish-of-a-lifetime for this Winter Park angler.

The new FishingNosara visor must have lured up a big one…Check out this MASSIVE Cubera Snapper he snagged early in the day.

After the inshore success, Captain William pointed the blue beauty off shore for another stroll through Sailfish City.

Here’s what Paul had to say on Tripadvisor:

“What a great trip! I’m an avid fisherman in Florida and the Bahamas, but this blew all of my other trips away. Everyone from Craig (owner / booking) to Matt and all of the captains & crew were great.”

“We fished 3.5 days and caught 26 billfish, 5 dorado (one at 60 lbs) and 16 yellowfin tuna… not to mention the cubera snapper, amberjack and other inshore fish. We fished mostly on the Wanderer, Harvester and Explorer. All were great, but my favorites were Capt William & first Mate Johnny (Wanderer) and the Captain Alex with first mate Kevin (Harvester).”

“We fished mostly ballyhoo with circle hooks offshore and all crews knew how to fish. Almost every captain spoke English too… which really helps. My favorite was when we found some bonito and slow trolled them for the marlin, larger sailfish and inshore for cubera.”

“Don’t be fooled by the rainy season… it produces offshore as well. Rooster fish were very hard to find and may be better other seasons. I do not hesitate in recommending this group for a great fishing trip.”

“If you are looking to fish large sportfish boats with A/C…. this is not your trip. But if you want to catch the same quality and quantity of fish for 1/3 of the price… this is the trip. I can’t wait to book my next trip!”

“PS – lunch was included for our trips and was fantastic. Cooked by the local ladies and in classic Costa Rica style. Water and fresh fruit included too… just bring the beer, the sunscreen and the gopro / cameras!!”
