FishingNosara Hall of Famer Richmond Phipps made her first visit to the Explorer today and certainly got back to her fishing roots on the 26-foot Super Panga. Senora Phipps has been working the fish in Garza Bay from panga boats since the Nixon administration and the reef dwellers still tremble in fear when Richmond in on the water.

Richmond was joined by her daughter and great friend to FishingNosara Brooke Shields for the first of two trips on the Explorer. Captain David kept them on the fish, and in less than three hours they pulled in a pair of nice White Tunas for the dinner table along with some other assorted nibbles.

Fantastic evening of inshore fishing for Richmond and Brooke on the powerful 26-foot Explorer.

Charles Barend and his family took a lovely 2.5 hour sunset cruise on the Explorer and had some nice results fishing with Captain David and Mate Carlos. They started with a Bonita on the planer/spoon to use for bait, and sure enough the better-tasting fish were hungry.

The filled the fishbox with three big Jack Crevalles and a tasty White tuna. Looks like the kids had a great time and this family fishing frenzy fed the fridge with fresh fish filets for all!

Captain David and the Explorer got an early start today with client John Wellborn fishing at first light. They had lines in the water at 6:30am and got a few early-rising Bonita to use for bait.

The first good eatin’ fish was a White tuna weighing about 15lbs. After a few mystery nibbles, the Penn spinning rod screamed off its report and Mr. Wellborn roped in a 40lbs.+ Macarella (Spanish Mackerel in gringo). The early bird may get the worm, but on the Explorer the early fish get the hook!

Senior Eduardo Berrios has become a great friend to FishingNosara over the last year since his first in early January 2011. To celebrate the New Year he brought three generations of the Berrios family to the Explorer and they had a magical trip.

Captain David and Mate Pipio were honored to welcome Eduardo’s father and daughter and show them a great day of inshore action. Throughout the half day trip they caught three White Tunas, a Cierro Mackeral, a 20lbs. Blue Jack, a Barber Snapper and eight Bonitos. That’s a lot of rod-bending!

The highlight of the day was a 30lbs. Dorado that is unusually large for such shallow depth. Seems like he wandered inshore right into the Explorer‘s spread and Abullo Berrios knew exactly how to bring the big fish home. Great catches by all three generations of Berrios!

Check out the video that Eduardo posted to our Facebookย  page from the boat! This 21st century stuff is getting out of hand folks.

Surrounded by family and with excellent fish in the box; Great way to end a fantastic year for FishingNosara!

Mark Shaw enlisted Captian David and the Explorer for a fishing trip today that took them all around the Garza area and brought great fish for the table and the trophy room.ย  In the morning they stayed inshore and around 9:30 bent the rod with this nice White Tuna.

With dinner in the box, Captain David headed offshore to blue water where Mr. Shaw had chances at lots of fish. Around noon they lost a big Dorado and soon afterย  a sailfish. A hour of near-misses passed, then the fish of a lifetime came barrel-rolling through the spread.

Mate Pipio saw him first and alertly pitched a rigged ballyhoo down the exhaust alley. The Black Marlin showed his bill as he snatched the bait, and Mark buckled in for a wild ride.

After 20 minutes of combat this 200lbs. Black Marlin gave up the fight; Perfect bill and release by Pipio to ensure the safety of the fish and angler.

The Explorer proves once again that big billfish don’t care how big the boat is, so long as the right Captain, angler, and tackle are on the scene to take care of the job. Great fish, great release, great trip for Mark Shaw!

The next morning was family fishing time for client Paul Tyler on the Explorer. They caught a pair of Bonitas on the devastating planer/spoon rig then anchored up to the reef to find some good eatin’.

The Jacksonville, FL angler and his family ripped in four awesome White tunas in a very short time. These tasty delicacies make for some of the best sushi in the world.ย  They also nailed this excellent Jack Crevalle.

Great work by Mr. Tyler and the indefatigable Explorer.

On November 27 Captain David welcomed client Ian Raymond to the Explorer for a combination snorkling-fishing trip in the afternoon. It was a productive day highlighted by five tough little Needlefish on ice.

Then another great family came along on November 30 and had a fantastic trip on the Explorer. More Dorado, more White Tunas, and more big smiles from happy kids. Great work muchachos!

On December 2 Captain David parked the Explorer on a nice pot of Dorados. Yummy sandwiches and steaks from these lovely Mahi-mahis and another great report from the excellent Super Panga.

Chuck Darner and Bill Wilderotter finished their week of excellent fishing with Captain David and Mate Pipio on the Explorer and they dialed up a fish feast for the ages. David kept the barroom brawler on the fish while Pipio broke in the new forward casting platform…the result was a cornucopia of marine eatin’.

They started at 9am. The first fish was a 35 lbs. Dorado, then they backed that up with a 25 lbs. Cubera Snapper, a 25 lbs. Amberjack, and a nice White Tuna.

The Jacksonville anglers finished off their trip by adding a Macarela, two Jack Crevalles,ย  and four beefy Bonitas. Excellent end to an amazing week in Nosara…these guys are on top!

Tom Cavin and his posse from Jacksonville, FL had fantastic day on the Super Panga Explorer this morning. They started with 2 white tunas and then wanted to see what was lurking on the bottom. Guest what?

Nice 60lbs. Rooster fish. Of course this fish was safely released after a few minutes later.ย  Great work by Mr. Cavin who won this fishing trip inย  a raffle at the Ancient City Kingfish Tournament last year in St. Augustine (see below).
