Off-Season Maintenance 2026

The FishingNosara team has completed our annual boat maintenance and are ready to roll for the 2027 season.

All five boats got a healthy dose of TLC during the September/October rainy season.

The mighty flagship Wanderer got a full interior refresh, including her signature FishingNosasra Blue trim on the deck lids.

The Wanderer‘s cabin also got trimmed out with new cushions and teak accent pieces, including this awesome new cubby system for storage:

The mega panga Harvester also got a complete interior disassembly, cleaning, and refit:

The 23-foot switchblade Adventurer is re-sharpened and ready for another year of hand-to-hand bluewater combat.

While this level of cosmetic maintenance is important, the real reason we do this is to find small problems and fix them before they become big problems.

For example, the big battleship Discoverer revealed a small hole in the forward outer hull once we scraped off the gelcoat and bottom paint from last year.

We cut out the deck floor above the affected area and laid six layers of new fiberglass and epoxy on both the exterior and interior. Here is the view from the inside:

We are confident that she is strong as ever after this repair.

The big news from this off-season is the reimagining of the 27-foot Explorer:

The forward casting platform has felt soft for a while, and now we know why; the horizontal supports have detached from the the gunwales overtime, so that the only thing holding the cabin together was layers of gelcoat and fiberglass.

We re-attached the support members, then repeated the process for the center support piece.

After the structural repairs, we cleaned up the resin drips and applied a fresh layer of gelcoat.

We also replaced the console support braces which were part of the original Explorer build; after 15 years of service, these connections were ready for and upgrade.

Lastly, we celebrated the re-enforced Explorer with a fresh layer of FishingNosara Blue:

We are excited to be completely reloaded for bluewater battle in 2027.

While the boat crews were humming away in the shop, the property staff also we busy getting ready for the new season. Our trusty Land Cruiser has been freshly repainted:

In the houses we have been experimenting with a new varnish from Awlgrip, and we are stoked with the result. Check out this before-and-after:

We can’t wait to welcome you home on your next visit to Nosara.
