Jim Benvenga release SIX Marlin on the Explorer today plus a Sailfish to complete the legendary Billfish Grand Slam!
ย
Jim Benevenga got off to a fast start on the Explorer with a beautiful Marlin release backed up by a nice Dorado.
Great fish handling by Mate Kevin ensures another safe release!

Craig Sutton returned to the offshore bite on August 17 as Captain William guided the flagship to the scene of yesterday’s Grand Slam.
Once again the billfish were in the house as Craig released two Marlins: one Blue and one big Black!

August has been an action-packed month for the last few years, but this billfish bite is unheard-of!
The Explorer welcomed client Justin Howell for a Yellowfin Tuna hunt and Captain David sniffed out a meaty 50lbs. Yella Fella.
This monster should surely satisfy the most demanding appetite. Great catch by the super panga!
Joel Adler scored a magic Marlin release on the Wanderer. This beauty approached the boat around 10:40am and by 11:15 she was cleanly released.
Great work by Captain William and First Mate Alex, the best crew in Garza!
The Explorer‘s hot streak continues! Captain David showed these Jacksonville clients an excellent adventure with FIVE Sailfish released on one trip. Mate Kevin is already showing off his locally-polished fishing skills as all five billfish were returned to the water unharmed.
After the Sailfish bite shut down in the afternoon Captain David retooled the Explorer‘s spread to deliver dinner filets in the form of this wonderful 40+lbs. Dorado.
Looks like these clients have nothing to complain about this week…five trophy releases and a full fridge of fresh fish filets!
Newland Crocker is a dyed-in-the-wool fisherman from the Tar Heel State and it was an honor to host his group on the mighty Wanderer for a landmark day of fishing. They got off to a fast start with a wonderful 250lbs. Striped Marlin release.
Not to rest on their laurels, these North Carolinians added three Sailfish release including a very challenging Double Sailfish release:
What better way to round out a day of trophy releases than to bloody the decks and fill the icebox with this very tasty 35lbs. Dorado?
Excellent fishing as always from the boat that is ruling Garza Bay.
Andy McGuire had a phenomenal trip on the legendary Explorer with Captain David on the helm and Captain Carlos in the mate position. The dynamic duo put out an irresistible spread and the Sailfish swarmed the Super panga with veracity. Check out this high-flyin’ billfish action:
The first pair of Sailfish put on a great show above the water, but the second pair put on a high-wire act the likes of Barnum and Bailey’s:

Always the mindful skipper, Captain David set the Explorer up for Dorado later in the trip and scored this tasty morsel for his client.
ย
Excellent work as always by the legendary Super panga!
The Wanderer stayed near shore today with client David Abbott and took advantage of the swarm of Wahoo that have invaded the green water. They scored two nice silver bullets:
Clearly Wahoo is on the menu for these guys.. However they may need to trade some filets if they want any Mahi; I don’t think this fella will even made two sandwiches:
Good fun and good fishing on the Wanderer!
Charlie and the boys couldn’t resist adding one more full day on the mighty Wanderer before returning to the States, and Capt. Phillips finally got his chance at the fish of a lifetime.
Charlie Phillips: Today was an epic end to a fantasy week for me. I battled the most noble of the billfish, the majestic Blue Marlin, and was rewarded with a photo, the hook removed and in my pocket then a successful release. One of the best days I have ever experienced on the water. And better yet we ended up two!
The second Marlin (below) came at 11am for Charlie fresh on the heels of his first (above).
Jason followed up with his own excellent Marlin release.
Charlie Phillips: “This was by far the most enjoyable vacation that myself or anyone in my group has ever experienced. Your staff is wonderful and took care of us as though we were family the entire time, something that is greatly appreciated. And your captains and crews are true masters of their craft. As a working captain myself, it is a true joy watching them work to make our trips a great success.”
