Captain Antonio and Mate Raffa welcomed angler John Hohl on April 3 for a big day of Yellowfin Tuna action. The big one was well over 80lbs.
The Discoverer welcomed Charlie Vander Linden on April 3 and the battleship reports some fine Sailfish action.
In addition to the billfish releases, they scored a beefy Dorado for the dinner table.
Discoverer edged out by a familiar face; Calcutta-winning Pangas
Tough Scoring and a Razor-sharp finish tell the story of the 2023 Ship of Fools Tournament.
The Kahuna finished in first place with 850 total points. One of the mates on this boat is Alex Moreno, former Captain of the Harvester.
Captain Carlos on the Discoverer took second place, with a 25 point Dorado score defining the gap between podium positions.
Angler Jimmy Nichols’ crew scored five Sailfish releases and a Marlin release on the big battleship.
They also boated a Yellowfin Tuna which held off the hard-charging La Bonita.
Each of the two tournament fishing days had a largest Yellowfin Tuna Calcutta, and both were won by the FishingNosara panga fleet.
On the Explorer, Heidi and Jim O’Callaghan scored a 83.8 lbs. Yellowfin Tuna on day one (above), and Matty Jorn scored this 93.5 lbs. beast during the second day on the Adventurer :

As always, the anglers gathered in Garza to celebrate a great weekend of fun fishing, despite the slow action.
Heidi and Jim O’Callaghan delivered this amazing Yellowfin Tuna to win the Day 1 Calcutta of the 2023 Ship of Fools Tournament in Playa Garza, CR.
On March 30, Matty and Bridget Jorn scored six 25lbs. Yellowfin Tunas on a quick afternoon trip with the Harvester.
On March 30 the Harvester nagged a Double Sailfish release along with several solo releases.
Doardo and Yellowfin Tuna filets were added to their icebox.
On the Explorer, Heidi and Jim O’Callaghan had a monster day on March 30.
This sweet Marlin release was augmented by a few nice Yellowfin Tunas for the dinner table.
The Discoverer welcomed our dear friend Larry Komenda aka Captain Lorenzo for a nice day of action on March 30.

Rob Scott’s kids released a quartet of Sailfish on March 29 aboard the Explorer.
