Jacksonville’s own Ron Poindexter kicked some serious billfish butt on his first of two days of fishing on the mighty Wanderer. Captain William pointed the compass to Sailfish City and First Mate Alex put out the spread that has turned these once elusive predators into daily sparring partners for our boys.

This first Sailfish release was a great way to start the week, and the furious action that followed put these Northeast Florida anglers to the test.

How sweet are these pictures! it’s hard to decide what Captain William is better at: catching big billfish or capturing them on camera.

Look out for more great action when these clients hit the water again later this week.

Simon Williams comes to Nosara all the way from merry old England and for his day on the Wanderer it seems like he brought some nasty North Atlantic weather with him.

Though everyone on shore was ecstatic to have some much-needed rain, Captain William and First Mate Alex had to keep one eye on the baits and another eye on the fast-moving rain clouds pouring out of the mountain.

The Wanderer is famous for her ‘Never Surrender!’ attitude and just because the seas were rough doesn’t mean that the fish would get a break, as Simon released this nice Sailfish after a tense 20 minute duel.

Great work by the baddest boat in the bay: the Wanderer!

River Fishing Report – May 2013

Javier has continued his onslaught on the Snook dwelling in the Nosara river mouth. Check out some of his highlights from this month:

Also the Fuppernos (Friend of the River) are staying on task by keeping the river clean and free of garbage; the return of the seasonal rains means that lots of junk is flowing down the mountain and only through the vigilance of the Fuppernos can this lovely resource thrive.

Thanks to Pipin, Marina, Manuel, Rosi, Joaquin and Juan Luis for their help this month.

Read more and get involved with the cause by visiting the Fuppernos Facebook page and do your part…if you are in town visiting for a few days why not give back to the Nosara community by pitching in on a river clean-up?

May 1, 2013

Time again for the monthly Nosara Paradise Rentals / FishingNosara company fishing outing. Javier was joined by his wife Ana and son Dario, brother Grevan, Cathy, Arturo, and Freddy for a relaxing afternoon on the Wanderer with Captain William and First Mate Alex.

We’ll let you know if they caught anything shortly. Regardless, it is always great when the crew gets a chance to relax and enjoy a day on the ocean.

Getaway day for the Bill Harris group! After releasing nine Sailfish in two days it stands to reason that things would slow up for the boys. Still they found this straggler Sailfish poking around the baits; this release brings their group total to ten for the week!

It was cold beers, celebratory cubanos, and big smiles for these Floridans as they polish off an excellent three days of fishing in Costa Rica. Great job guys!

Samantha Rady braved the blue water onboard Garza’s ulimate prize fighter the Explorer. Captain David was on his game and hooked this NYC angler with not one but TWO elusive Rooster Fish!

They warmed up earlier in the trip on some Jack Crevalles before pursing the trophy fish.

Of course both Roosters were released and we look forward to them pecking at our baits again really soon.

Bill Harris and the boys got off to a fast start yesterday, but today’s incredible catches put that old business far in the rear-view mirror. Elie was the icebreaker on this trip, releasing this Sailfish just after 9am.

The were more nice Sails close behind as the strikes came at a furious pace.

The action was intense when two lines sang off at once, setting the stage for another amazing Double Sailfish Release.

Looks like everyone got a photos with these lovely twins. Excellent fish handling by First Mate Alex to safely bill, revive, and release these fish.

What happened to your ballyhoo? Did a Sailfish rob you and run away? And what is First Mate Alex doing behind you?

Oh, I see. Putting the final touch on a wonderful five Sailfish release day on the mighty Wanderer!

April 26, 2013

FishingNosara veteran angler Bill Harris has built a solid reputation as a no-holds-barred fish catching machine. In the past he’s had lights-out performances on big Yellowfin tuna and Dorado but has yet to join our bill collectors club. Would he find the elusive Pacific Sail on his three trips this week?

The St. Petersburg, FL angler rolled into town deep this week with fellow Tampa/Pinellas boys Elie Bedran, Andrew Spangler, Joe Arriaga, Brady Harris and Roger Stephan.

Captain William’s plan for these guys? Take them out to Sailfish City and see who quits first…the fish or the fellas?

The Sailfish swarmed the spread thickly and the boys reeled quickly. This first high-flying Sail came in at 9am with several of her hunting buddies close behind.

After the first two releases the bite cooled off, but sure enough it fired right back up after 1pm. Here’s Brady Harris with one of the larger specimens.

The final release of the day came just after 3:30pm and put the perfect cap on a quadruple release effort

Of course First Mate Alex saw to the safe handling and live release of these rare creatures. The way this posse fishes we’re gonna need them around this week!

Most people don’t get to see grown men smiling and giggling like little boys, but it’s a near-daily occurrence on the flagship Wanderer.

The Adventurer was on the water again on April 26, this time with client Steve Kuhnz for a half-day excursion. They started the day off with some inshore nibblers and then Captain Carlos pushed offshore to find the blue water alley.

Sure enough this nice Dorado hit the rig about 3 miles from shore and Steve had the game to put it on ice.

Nice catch from the 23-foot panga that is changing all the rules for extreme panga fishing!

April 25, 2013

After their banner day on the Wanderer on April 23, Robert and Joy returned to the Explorer for an inshore battle that was just as fruitful as their offshore excursions.

First off Mr. McCafferty waylaid this 30lbs. Amberjack. Remember that here on the Pacific side our Amberjack are edible and delicious, unlike the Atlantic variety.

Joy Best followed up with a fish that is delicious no matter what ocean you’re in. This tasty Yellowfin Tuna weighs about 35lbs. and is every ounce as good as it looks.

What a wonderful way to cap off a great week of fishing!
