The blue water has been tough to find this week with the rains and northern ocean swells pushing the clean water out of our range. Fortunately Captain David of the Explorer is not fazed by less than ideal conditions, as proved by client Dane Sheild’s productive half day tuna hunt.

These monsters are a tasty addition to the fridge at Casa Tranquilo and both anglers had a blast. Nice work by the Explorer to stand strong in the face of adversity.

Hall of Famers Chuck Harris and Rick Blackburn have planned multiple days of fishing on the Wanderer. On their first day they opted for good-eating fish so Captain William chased down a large school of big Yellowfin Tunas. Check out these monsters:

Mr. Harris and his pal Dave Wesmoss have booked the Wanderer and Explorer solid this whole week. It will be exciting to see what they pull in as they grow more seasoned to Costa Rican fishing by the day. With all these tasty Yella Fellas, they will certainly be well fed for the week!

Another legendary day for Charly Bernhardt and Silvia Munoz on the Wanderer!

Regular readers of this report remember that Charly and Silvia were on the big blue beauty exactly one year ago for the most productive day of Yellowfin tuna fishing in recent memory; Jog your memory by Watching the video or reading the post.

So here we are 364 days later, and what do you think happened?

Whoa! Those are some big f*$%king tunas…it’s amazing that they could hold these things up for the pictures let alone pull them out of the water. Great work by Craig, Paula, Charly and Silvia on some amazing angling!

This is why Alex lifts weights…great work all around by anglers, boat, Captain William, and the crew.

They say everything is bigger in Texas, so when the Wanderer welcomed Lone Star gal Debbie Griffith and her posse from Cypress on July 31 it was clear that only the BIG fish would have to be worried. Captain William hunted down a large school of feeding porpoises and put the Wanderer right alongside the feeding frenzy as First Mate Alex and the boys threw Williamson “El Poppers” to the surface-striking Yellowfin Tunas.

They caught two monster Yellowfin Tunas over 60lbs using this top water casting tactic. Later in the day they drew the attention of a big Sailfish but couldn’t quite bury the hooks. Still, all is well with over 120lbs. of Tuna in the fishbox…enough to feed an appetite the size of Texas.

You can tell from the pictures that these are some Heavy Yella Fellas!

Geoff and Bob Birtalan capped off their amazing week of fishing in Nosara with more great Sailfish releases and a Yellowfin Tuna that can easily be called one of the biggest of the season.

As in the previous few days, Captain William took the Wanderer offshore into the blue water alley holding swarms of massive Pacific Sails. Once again the Birtalan gang hooked up two of these amazing monsters, and as always both fish were safely released.

Later on the half-day trip they met up with a MASSIVE 120+lbs. Yellowfin Tuna and after a vigorous 45-minute battle they successfully put this monster in the fishbox.

Too bad these guys are leaving today because that is a LOT of sushi. I’m sure that folks all around Garza and Nosara Paradise Rentals are chowing down on this lovely fish at this very moment. We look forward to seeing Geoff at the 31st Annual Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament this weekend and hear some great fishing stories first hand.

Great work by Future Hall of Famers Bob and Geoff Birtalan and the Wanderer on a great week of fishing!

Big day of inshore action for the Explorer and the Wanderer as the FishingNosara team had some great weights on the hooks. The Harlins went out on the Explorer this morning for a half-day and caught four nice 15lbs. Yellowfin Tunas and fifteen Twofin Tunas between 10-12lbs.

Later in the day on the Explorer Frank Desoblin from Gecko Verde in Samara choose the Super Panga for a half day and caught four Yellowfin tunas and 3 Twofins.

Meanwhile on the Wanderer Captain William took the Huber group a little bit offshore to troll for some monsters, and they found the BIG Yellas  out by a school of porpoises. They had several multiple hook-ups and kept some nice behemoths for the fishbox.

Great day of fishing by the whole FishingNosara Team.

July 1, 2011

After yesterday’s amazing 90lbs. score, Chuck Harris, Rick Blackburn, Rick Damron, and Scottie had the Yellowfin Tuna on the ropes for their final day of fishing on the Wanderer. With Captain David on loan from the Explorer and Concierge Numero Uno Manuel on board, they once again utilized ‘El Popper’ and ceder plugs to present a spread that the Yella Torpedos could not resist.

The first few fish were in the 15lbs.-20lbs. range and they got bigger with each catch. With four footballs in the fishbox, boys were shocked by a line ripping off like it was hooked to an oil rig. A knock-down drag-out brawl ensured, with the boys emerging victorious. Think of it this way… have you ever made this face:

In not, it is because you have never caught this fish:

This is a Hall of Fame catch if I’ve ever seen one…the perfect end to several solid days of fishing on the Wanderer. Give it up for Captain William, First Mate Alex, Mate David and this fine team of anglers!

June 18, 2011

On June 18 Charlie Pharr and his friends booked the Wanderer for a half day and started the morning off right. Nothing feels better than putting TWO 60lbs. Yellowfin Tuna in the box before noon! Then they raised two Sailfish but could not convince them to eat.

By the end of the trip they had two 60+ lbs. Yellas and also a couple of 20lbs. From football-sized to football-player-sized, the Yellowfin Tuna bite was ON FIRE this month!

November 21, 2010

On November 21 Craig Sutton was joined on the Wanderer by Matty, Pat, Paula, Craig Jr., Sylvia and Charley Barnhart and we did a full day of work on the offshore Yellowfin Tuna.

The big Yellas were chowing down on Williamson Jet Poppers and slow-trolled cedar plugs. Even though these catches were great, we still left a few big fellas in the water.

Overall, a great day fishing with some great folks.

Also clients John, Joe, and Bruce Sabine finished their week of fishing in Nosara by making life miserable for the big Yellowfin Tunas.

Jet Poppers and ceder plugs were the hot lures, and the trio of Tampa anglers had a legendary good time. The fishboxes were so stuffed that they released this 70lbs. Yellowfin.
