Fresh off of catching the first Sailfish on the Explorer, Steve Levin took to the Wanderer to continue his one man War on Billfish. On his first day he brought in this awesome Blue Marlin, estimated to weigh about 300lbs.
Like all billfish caught by FishingNosara crews, this Marlin was live released.
To follow up this legendary catch, Steve Levine and the boys took another shot at the billfish in the blue water. Check out this incredible sailfish:
After three great releases on two different boats, we’re sure that the local billfish population are glad to see Steve Levine go. Great fishing!
Why is the Fishing in Nosara so good? While the remote location and absence of giant marinas means less pressure on the fishery, the most important factor is clearly visible on the map above.
The Nosara Coast is so good for fishing because of the 100 fathom ledge bending in towards the beach. This underwater alley brings the blue water and its species of fish very close to the beach. Also, tends to hold the blue water species of fish in the Nosara area for the greater part of the year.
This close proximity to the blue water shortens your travel time and therefore costs you less; virtually none of your fishing time is wasted in transit…you can fish all day! Also, the prevailing ocean currents brings lots of bait fish to the area.
While most of the other sport fishing boats out are making the 50 mile run from Los Suenos to the South or 40 miles out of Flamingo and Tamarindo to get to the deep water, we are about 3.5 miles from the best fishing in the Nosara area.
Compared that to my hometown of Jacksonville, FL where we routinely make a three-hour, 70 mile run out to our 200 foot ledge.
Or howabout the Northeast where offshore fishing pretty much requires a 100+ foot boat to make the 20-hour roundtrip to deep water.
Not only does Nosara have some of the most fertile fishing in the world but it is offers some of the best bang-for-your-buck fishing around.

It’s been more than a month, but the crew here at FishingNosara is still glowing from the Loughran wedding. It was the first destination wedding that we have had down here and featured five full days of fishing on the Wanderer, a full-on pig roast/marimba band fiesta, and of course the white-glove service that has made Nosara Paradise Rentals famous. Check out this great email we got:
“Wow—i cannot believe how awesome our wedding was!!! And it was so great b/c of you and all of your staff—especially Javier…we told him that he could add “Wedding Planner” on his resume…ha ha…that man knows how to get things done!!! ๐ It was such a special occasion and man, we have some good stories from that week!!!”
“Thanks again Craig for all your hard work and effort!!! I know my dad can get a little intense when it comes to fishing, but what other family can say they caught their own food for the wedding reception!!! ๐ Love it!!!”
Client Allen Collen and Captain David stayed inshore and pulled off the double-whammy of bottom fishing: Grouper and Cuberra Snapper on the same trip!
These monsters have been known to exhaust the most seasoned anglers…managing to fight both of these fish in one day is a real feat.
The Explorer is rocking and rolling! Captain David has been putting clients on all kinds of fish in the last three weeks, and now he is bringing in the billfish.
Client Steve Levine and his son Alex hooked up this beautiful Sailfish while fishing with Captain David on the Explorer. Steve spent three awesome days on the Wanderer this week as well, and believe me the billfish are glad to see him go!
The Billfish bite is definitely heating up! Steve booked the Wanderer for a day of fishing and I am pleased to report that they released a 150lbs.ย Stripe Marlin!
Also, over on the Explorer client Dean Ricci caught two Amberjack and two white tunas, all weighing between 15-20lbs. After this early morning trip, Captain David was joined by client Jacob Owen for an afternoon half-day. He caught a macarella and a white tuna.
The big fish are starting to rear their heads, so what are you waiting for? Get down to Nosara soon!
The Explorer offers a wide variety of adventure options besides Extreme Panga Fishing. She is the perfect size for snorkeling trips, hunting unreachable surf breaks, and (in the case of today) taking a Marine Nature Tour.
They saw lots of dolphins, manta rays, and sea turtles. Plus this little marlin bird hitched a ride on the prow of the Explorer for a while. Everyone had a great time!
Our good friend and regular client Henry Doggrell was back on the Wanderer and his party had a real nice time. They cleaned up on the Black Tunas and White Tunas. Great work by boat, angler and crew. Pura Vida!
Steve Levine is in town and has his sights set on some great fishing. He starts his first of three days on the Wanderer tomorrow, and today he had a great day on the Explorer.
He released a BIG sailfish and lost a 500lbs Black Marlin. The fish through out the hook while tailwalking. Keep an eye right here for pictures and more reports. Pura Vida!
At FishingNosara we have a wide variety of top-notch tackle and lures, but on this day we had to improvise. What started as a simple test-drive of our newest boat (Explorer) turned into a full day of fishing. What to do when you leave your teasers at home? Watch this video and find out!
