Brian Bickel and his boys from South Georgia lit it up today with nice Sailfish and Dorados. The spinning porpoises led the famous Wanderer out to a full-on feeding frenzy.
They had three Sailfish in the spread throughout the day with two successful catch and releases.
This hungry posse also put three big Dorados in the box which should keep them pleasantly plump for the rest of the week.
Great start for these fellas who still have more fishing planned this week.
Jacksonville angler and Florida Sportsman calendar model Janae had a great morning on the 26-foot Super Panga Explorer. She is in Nosara celebrating her birthday and thankfully the fish decided to attend the party.
She got into town from Florida late last night and then hit the water first thing in the morning…that’s how we fish in Duval, folks.
Captain David reports that she caught a pair of 40lbs. Mahi-Mahi and that she was super-stoked to have some fish for the fridge.
Janae will be fishing again on Monday and we’ll see how things go offshore; the way this week has gone it’s fair to say that things should be poppin’.
The Wanderer lit it up today with a pair of great trips featuring a big Sailfish release and lots of fresh fish filets for our friends.
Mark and Melody Mukon booked a full 8 hour day on the big blue battlewagon and these Connecticut anglers were looking for billfish and meat for the cooler; frankly they got all they could handle!
The day got off to a slow start but the 1pm Sailfish bite has been on like clockwork this week and sure enough this mighty Pacific Sailfish challenged Mr. Mukon and the Wanderer to a fight.
Captain William spun the Wanderer into a position of power while Mark put a swift 15 minute beating on this billfish. First Mate Alex executed a perfect bill and release, and this monster swam away free and will be ready for another scrap soon.
That awesome fish turned out to be the plug in the dam because once it was released the Wanderer was beset on all sides by hungry Dorados. Perhaps they were lured in by Melody’s freshly-purchased Pink FishingNosara hat…hmmmmm that particular color of hat always seems to bring good luck to a boat.
The feeding frenzy that followed brought in four nice Mahi-Mahis ranging from 25lbs. to the 60lbs. whopper pictured with Captain William.
Melody and Mark Mukon added this feisty little Wahoo to the shopping cart just as they checked out from the fish market. They have two more full days of fishing planned this week…look out fish, the Mukon’s are just getting started!
We have received word of a MASSIVE Dorado caught on the Wanderer by client Jim Bates that may be the biggest of the season so far. Captain William reports that this monster weighed upwards of 50lbs. and by these pictures I think he may be underestimating a bit.
What an excellent gaff shot by First Mate Alex! For those who don’t know the goal is to strike the fish in the head as far from the filets as possible. This prevents blood contamination in the meat and ensures maximum meat yield.

Senior Eduardo Berrios has become a great friend to FishingNosara over the last year since his first in early January 2011. To celebrate the New Year he brought three generations of the Berrios family to the Explorer and they had a magical trip.
Captain David and Mate Pipio were honored to welcome Eduardo’s father and daughter and show them a great day of inshore action. Throughout the half day trip they caught three White Tunas, a Cierro Mackeral, a 20lbs. Blue Jack, a Barber Snapper and eight Bonitos. That’s a lot of rod-bending!
The highlight of the day was a 30lbs. Dorado that is unusually large for such shallow depth. Seems like he wandered inshore right into the Explorer‘s spread and Abullo Berrios knew exactly how to bring the big fish home. Great catches by all three generations of Berrios!

Surrounded by family and with excellent fish in the box; Great way to end a fantastic year for FishingNosara!
The post-Christmas fishing blitz means that it’s all hands on deck for FishingNosara. Three boats had trips today and all of our Captains report excellent catches.
Atlanta based client Joel Adler split his group between our two mid-sized vessels, the 23′ Nice n’ Tight and the 26′ Explorer.
Captain Eduardo struck early and often with a MASSIVE Amberjack, a beefy Dorado, and a nice Yellowfin tuna for the dinner table with clients Ed, Pete and Deena.
Captain David on the Explorer reports a Yellowfin tuna backed up by a Yellowtail Snapper and a Rock Snapper with Mr. Adler.
Kevin Killerman enlisted Captain Vibert and the 32′ Aimee Marie for a half-day of inshore fishing and he piled the fishbox high with 7 Jack Crevalles. Nice work by the Master Captain and a great first trip back for the Aimee Marie which has been undergoing maintenance recently.

Nice action on the Sportsman for client Chad from Montana. Captain Eduardo took the 32′ Shamrock offshore to the blue water break and found some fishy activity out in the deep water.
They raised up a beautiful Sailfish that tore through the spread robbing baits; it was too evasive this time and got away clean. However Chad backed-up that near miss with a big old Dorado estimated to weigh 40lbs.
Fresh sushi followed up with grilled mahi steaks…That quite a Christmas dinner right there!
Sadie Wright from Alaska and her group caught a 25lbs. Dorado, a nice Yella fella, a White fella and fifteen Jack Crevalles this morning.
Legendary day for client Matt Bleach and his wife on the Explorer! Captain David and Mate Pipio chased the blue water break a few miles offshore and found a school of lovely Dorados that ate like they haven’t been fed in a month. By the end of the day they had caught twenty Dorados!
They also had two nice Jack Crevalles and a Bonita, but lost a really big Dorado. Clearly the greenies are here in numbers because Pipio sighted a jumping Black Marlin about half a mile behind the spread…obviously the bite is on and will continue to be for quite some time.
Meanwhile on the Wanderer client Jeff and his friends caught five Bonitas on a 2.5 hr inshore session; not great results but it’s good to keep the rods bending even if only for Bonitas.
Nice action on the Explorer today with a group of clients signing up Captain David for a half-day of fishing off Garza. They had a nice Dorado early in the day and then backed that up with an evening Amberjack weighing around 30lbs.
Excellent results for the dinner table by the 26′ Super Panga. No matter what’s happening offshore the Explorer always catches inshore species, keeping the clients smiling and the fishbox full.
