Mark and Deb Collins of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL had a wonderful time on the Wanderer on July 6. The blue beauty stayed inshore and pulled up a pair of tasty snappers.
This Cubera Snapper is estimated around 25lbs. and is the perfect size for this kind of fish when you are looking for the best tasting filets; any larger and they start to lose their density.
Deb followed up the big fish with this little 6lbs. Yellowtail Snapper. This is a rare delicacy in our area: this Yellowtail is only the third of the season for the team.
Captain David stayed inside on July 6 with Cara Macksoud and her fellas. Take a look at this nice haul:
The 25lbs. Cubera Snapper definately qualifies as a tasty entree, but don’t overlook the Amberjacks for ceviche and soupa. These folks are spending a few months in the Nosara area and we hope once the refrigerator is empty we see them on the water again.
The Wanderer has hit her stride when it comes to top-notch billfishing this season, as exemplified by client Randy Powell’s recent trip where he released a nice Sailfish in the morning then followed up with a monster Marlin in the afternoon.
The Sailfish came crusing through the spread just before 10am and Mr. Powell put the heat on him to keep the fight under 15 minutes. A great start to to what would become a fantastic trip.
After three hours of quiet trolling, the long outrigger line sang the high-pitched song that could only mean on thing: Marlin!
This beast put on a heck of a show on her way but Captain William stayed two steps ahead of the bucking Marlin leading to a safe clean release by First Mate Alex.
Jessica Bartoszek and her friends spend three nice days on the Explorer with Captain David and on the final day of the trip he delivered a memorable Sailfish release.
This Sail dragged out a mile of line but the tough-as-nails Explorer backed her down quickly and brought her alongside for a quick, safe release.
Great work by the angler, Captain, and crew of the baddest Super Panga in the sea, the Explorer!
Randy Powell has the knack for catching big fish as evidenced by this ridiculous 50+lbs. Amberjack caught on July 5. Captain David parked the Explorer right on top of the inshore reef system and this monster inhaled a fresh Bonita chunk.

Steve House is staying in Guiones Beach and wanted to dip his toes into the world of blue water fishing. Since he was riding solo the perfect choice was Captain Carlos and the 23-foot Adventurer. Check out this tasty Yella Fella they pried out of the water on board the pocket knife.

“Just wanted to say thanks and tell you that your crew here in Nosara was very professional and showed me a really good time.ย I caught a huge yellow fin Tuna on my fishing trip and the chef at my hotel prepared it for me.ย It was possibly the best fish I had ever eaten.ย No fish were caught on the Kayak trip but the guide was sure to point out all the local wildlife.ย Cheers!”
David Schiffer and his lady took to the Super Panga on July 2 and Captain David kept the good times rolling with yet another tasty bite of Yellowfin Tuna.
These football-sized Yella Fellas are the perfect size for filets and yield the best-tasting meat around.
More importantly check out the big smiles on the client’s faces; This is the standard side-effect of a great day of Super Panga fishing!
The River has been full of great action this month with Snook and other yummy species finding the hooks.

That’s what I call bringing home the bacon!
After many months of pleading by the Fuppernos, the government sent some scientists and officials to test the river water for contamination.
There are suspicions that poachers upstream are using chemicals to harvest fish from the river and that is obviously dangerous to all Nosarenos.
The scientists took samples and are currently running them at a government laboratory.
Also the Fuppernos (Friends of the River) are staying on task by keeping the river clean and free of garbage; the return of the seasonal rains means that lots of junk is flowing down the mountain and only through the vigilance of the Fuppernos can the river thrive.
Recently the rains also brought a treat: this amazing triple rainbow! What a great blessing:
The Explorer is on a roll this week with the Yella Fellas and Randy Powell was the latest to enjoy Super Panga fishing.
This pair of Yellowfin Tunas are just right to fill the refrigerator for Randy’s time in Nosara. He has a trip planned later this week on the Wanderer so let’s hope this was a nice warmup for some offshore action.
Dave Wenzel was back in action on the Wanderer hoping to follow up his Sailfish release from earlier in the week with the crown jewel of offshore billfishing: a big bad Marlin! Captain William took the blue beauty 10 miles offshore and the monster came calling at 1:28pm.
Dave showed his Northeast Florida angling mettle as he strapped in to fight the furious beast.
Young son: “Why is Alex shaking the fish so violently?”
Dad: “Son, that’s the fish shaking the man!”
After a harrowing 25 minute battle Mr. Wenzel brought the beast alongside the Wanderer for a wonderful release.
