Certain anglers want to micromanage their trip (inshore for 1.5 hours, troll for 2hr, cast for 45 minutes, etc.) and a common response is  to “take what the ocean gives you.”

Phil Egan learned this lesson from the sea on February 16. Here is his account:

“So, our little 2.5 hour 3-5:30 snorkeling trip turned into quite an experience. Green water and swells over the reef turned the snorkeling into a bust. We then turned offshore to see if we could have the kids spot some dolphins – that was a bust too.”

“After about 45mins searching, the guys then said “how about some fishing”. Um….sure! We ended up snagging 2 sails – so much fun.

“And then with the sun going going down and the guys taking in lines – the last remaining line in the water – port outrigger – blows up. Bring in a beautiful ~40 lb dorado!”

“Can’t wait for the Thursday trip!”

The Discoverer was excited to welcome back Ted Markow’s family for a return trip to the blue water.

Just like their trip last year, Team Markow did great. They enjoyed a fun Sailfish release, then nagged big Dorados.

They also battled a Blue Marlin but it spit the hook before it could be billed.

“Kevin and Carlos know what they are doing,” wrote Ted. “I watched Kevin prepping the equipment and bait on the ride out. He pays attention to details. Carlos sees the fish when they are going after the attractors. Kevin brings the bait close to the fish in order to hook them. They did not miss many fish.”

“What great memories for my 15 year old and 11 year old daughters. Not may 15 year old girls can say they fought a 200lb plus blue marlin for almost 30 minutes.”

“Great times!”

The Tri-Generational Scotty Moore group finished off their great fishing vacation with a bountiful trip on January 2.

Captain Alex reports that the fish of the day with this monster Dorado.

They also nagged a nice Yellowfin Tuna to add some variety to the fish bag.

Great work by the mega panga Harvester!

Three generations of Scotty Moore’s family hit the water on the 28th for their first day of fishing in Costa Rica. Captain Alex and the Harvester were ready to rock and Team Moore stayed on the bite all day.

They scored multiple excellent Yellowfin Tunas. I think they got next year’s Christmas card ready to go!

Earlier in the day they boated a nice Dorado, also a tasty filet for the dinner table.

While the big boats were offshore battling Marlins, the Explorer chose a closer orbit and Captain Fico’s witchcraft paid off for the Stephane Ughetto group.

This BIG Yellowfin Tuna (~60lbs.) was clearly the catch of the day, and it was backed up with a nice Sailfish release.

Excellent work by Mate Antonio and Captain Fico.
