Travis Picariello is a good old boy from New Jersey who we had the pleasure of meeting at a fishing show in Suffern, NY. With a lot of pleading and begging his parents allowed him and his cousin to visit us in Nosara, and clearly these fellas had some aces up their sleeves from the word ‘go’

Captain David took the Explorer to the blue water and they released a fantastic Marlin followed up by a big Sailfish.

Travis went ahead and picked up dinner in the form of this tasty 15lbs. Tuna and a big Dorado. Great start to the week for the Picariello boys.

Dennis Paul and the Wanderer turned in a legendary performance on June 4: A Double Sailfish release backed up by a 250lbs. Striped Marlin release!

That’s big even for this three-time Hall of Famer, who for this first time on this trip was joined by his girlfriend Barbara Dayhoff. These Clearwater, FL based anglers got of to a blazing start when the pair of Sailfish hunters hit the ballyhoos.

This fight was intense and after a 20 minute battle they had overcome both Sails and brought them alongside for picture-perfect double release just after 1pm.

The Wanderer continued to troll for a few hours when the brutal 250lbs. Striped Marlin came calling just before 4pm and Dennis was up to the task to bring her in.

Another outstanding performance by Captain William, First Mate Alex and the mighty Wanderer as once again Dennis Paul etches his name into the Hall of Fame.

So lots of attention is getting paid to some poor boat-handling fool down in Panama. Yes Marlin are strong, and yes they swim fast. It is a true fish-of-a-lifetime but only an amateur sinks his own boat and puts his clients in the drink trying to catch one.

Here’s how real professionals catch and release Marlin.

Captain William of the Wanderer keeps this fight short (under 25 minutes) with superb boat handling, angler Craig Sutton keep tension on the fish for the duration, and First Mate Alex executes a perfect revival and release.

All while keeping the boat on top of the water ๐Ÿ™‚

Proper tackle + strong boat and crew = safe releases and good times

Dave Devine and his family turned in one of the best performances in recent memory by releasing two Sailfish and two Striped Marlin on just a 5 hour trip! That is incredible production for a half-day of fishing.

Both Stripeys weighed about 225lbs. which is typical size for this species. They fight just as ferociously as their bigger cousins and getting two releases on a single trip is certainly a noteworthy feat.

Nice to see that Dave’s son got in on the action and caught one of the Sails. Great fish handling as always by First Mate Alex to make sure the fish and the kid got away from this photo safely.

Becky Hogan is famous in Jacksonville for running the legendary charter vessel The Mayport Princess, but her performance on the Wanderer stands out as one of the great fishing feats our team has ever witnessed. Along with her family and the crew, Ms. Hogan laid the smack down on a whole mess of Pacific billfish.

Topping the scorecard is two massive Marlin releases, both Stripeys and both bad to the bone.

Between Marlin bouts Becky also suplexed four Pacific Sailfish including a awe-inspiring Double Sailfish Release.

Amazing work by First Mate Alex to safely handle and release all of these wonderful billfish.

Now don’tย  go thinking that these anglers went away hungry…Becky and the boys backed up the trophy releases with seven Dorados ranging between 20lbs. – 30lbs.

That’s a legendary performance from a legendary Jacksonville angler!

John Murdaugh and his group come from a small South Carolina town but when these guys hit the water in Nosara they meant buisness big-time. On board the magnificent Wanderer with Captain William and First Mate Alex, these guy brought home a trio of fish that are all monsters in their own regard; taken together this is truly the trip of a lifetime.

This 50+lbs. Dorado was first out of the chute and John brought him in like an old pro. Next up was a mighty Pacific Sailfish who they caught and released very efficeintly…less than 15 minutes from hook up to release.

The final fight was from a MASSIVE Striped Marlin that came screaming through the baits like a banshee. The fight was a true test of angling mettle, but John Murdaugh and his team were apt to win the battle. Both billfish wereย  safely released as always…niceย  work by First Mate Alex.

I can’t wait to see the video from their pole camera but hopefully we’ll have in up here real soon.

A fantastic day of catching that will have the whole town of Hanahan, SC talking.

John Michael Burling and the boys finished off their fishing odyssey with Captain David on the 27 foot Super Panga Explorer. After fishing for a few day on the bigger boats, one could imagine that the fishing on the barroom brawler would be a let down…turns out they saved the best for last

First up on the hook was another nice Red Grouper weighing in at a good 15 lbs.

With dinner taken care of, this group set out for the deeper water and tried to best their wonderful Blue Marlin release from the previous day. The first curious billfish that came knocking was this awesome Sailfish, which when released was estimated to weigh over 120lbs.

The final victory lap came for these guys in the form of this massive Striped Marlin. Usually the Stripeys are the smallest of our Marlins, but this guy is a behemoth…it looks like it’s got shoulders!

All in all it was a great week of fishing for the Burling group with lots of good fishing stories to take back home.

Amazing Striped Marlin release today on the Wanderer! Mississippi’s own Josh Luke and Emily booked a half-day on the mighty blue bomber and Captain William delivered the goods for these client.

This guy put on a show as Josh brought him alongside for the release. Excellent teamwork by First Mate Alex and Josh to ensure the safe handling and release of this majestic Marlin.

After four Striped Marlin releases yesterday, it’s clear that the Wanderer has the Stripeys on the run!
