However, May 3 was a new day and client Sam Dobson and his girlfriend brought in the kind of catches we are all used to seeing on the Explorer. They stayed inshore and got the decks bloody early with a nice Rainbow Runner and a beefy Yellowfin Tuna.

They capped off the day with some offshore hustling and caught a ridiculously huge 70lbs Wahoo. Known as mini-Marlins in some circles, the Wahoo is a powerful fighter who pound-for-pound is just as formidable a foe as a billfish.

On April 19, Dan Enki was with Captain Eduardo on the legendary Nice n’ Tight and had some great action inshore. He caught a sweet Dorado and a 10lbs. Ponpano as well. Great fishing on a half-day trip.

Since then clients Richard, Stephen, and  Shelbi had a magnificent day fishing on the Nice n’ Tight. First they got a nice Wahoo and a beautiful Yellowfin tuna.

Then they capped off the trip with this fantastic Sailfish release. Great work by Captain Eduardo and the Nice n’ Tight.

Captain Craig Sutton, US Representative of FishingNosara, invited Matty and longtime Nosara client David Leibowitz for a day-long Wahoo hunt off the Atlantic Ledge east of Jacksonville, FL.

Without trusty First Mate Carl Schmidt, Craig took care of the gaff while calling on David to reel up the monsters and Matty to handle the boat. Though not the most seasoned crew the Fishtastic has ever seen, they got the job done to the tune of four big Wahoos.

We used our specialty Wahoo spread that includes skirted bonita strips, planer/spoon combo, and the infamous Cedar plug.

Rest assured that when we are not fishing in Costa Rica, the FishingNosara team is constantly engaging in this kind of “corporate field research”. Pura Vida!

LATE ADDITION: Jack wanted to get his bit in, so check out this awesome King Mackeral from August 2010. Captain Jack and his boat Drifter II are legendary in Northeast Florida much like his babies the Wanderer and Explorer are in Garza.

May 30, 2010

Craig Sutton was joined by clients Ray Carter and the lovely Georgia peach Paula Price for a great trip on the Wanderer on May 30th.

The weather was just about as perfect as could be imagined and the party had a fantastic array of catches. In total they caught a mean little 20lbs. Wahoo (above), a 30lbs. Amberjack, a 35lbs. Cuberra snapper and two 12lbs. Yellowfin tuna.

The highlight of the trip was a pair of 100+lbs. Sailfish releases. Paula showed her skills on the reel as both fights were under ten minutes and both fish were released.

November 30, 2009

On November 30 it was Wayne Patterson’s turn to harvest the blue waters, and this Jacksonville Beach native knew exactly what to do. He got on this huge wahoo and brought her all the way in on a stand-up fight. “It was awesome, man,” Wayne said in an email. “My first wahoo ever and I’ll never forget it.” It was enough of a catch to make the newspaper all the way back in Jax Beach.

Wayne was joined by fellow Jacksonville client Rocky Warpool and his buddies, and right off the bat Rocky caught a HUGE Blue Marlin. The following day they had an incredible time on the Dorados and more wahoo, plus they had about as much fun as you can have. Check out these big smiles!

Here are some great videos that Rocky shot on this trip:

On August 30th the staff of Nosara Paradise Rentals took an end-of-season trip and had a MASSIVE catch. The crew did quite well catching a 25lbs. wahoo, six 12lbs. yellowfin tunas, and five 10lbs. rainbow runners.  They also caught a massive cubera snapper, estimated to weigh 70lbs.

These guys and gals work tirelessly to make our slice of paradise accessible and accommodating
to all our guests, so it great to see them have a little fun and catch a lot of fish.

On May 28th Captain Eduardo has a full boat (Tania, Braulio, Jaime, Kendal, Manuel, Javier, Miguel and Greivin) on a three-hour sunset cruise. They had an awesome time, hightlighted by this beautiful 40lbs. wahoo catch.
It’s always a thrill when our great staff gets in on the fishing action, and these big smiles a perfect illustration of the Pura Vida lifestyle!
