After boating 15 nice fish to finish 2011, Sr. Eduardo Berrios and his padre set out to make their first trip of 2012 just as fruitful.
They put several Bonita in the bait bucket to get started then put the teasers out for billfish.
Captian David keep changing up the Explorer‘s spread to try to coax the big billfish up to the surface.
Unfortunately the Sails and Marlin were scarce and the Berrios boys only had a few small nibbles on the trip.
Eduardo uploaded this photo from the boat along with this caption:
“Heading home after spending the entire day on the water. No billfish but we still had a great time.”
Senior Eduardo Berrios has become a great friend to FishingNosara over the last year since his first in early January 2011. To celebrate the New Year he brought three generations of the Berrios family to the Explorer and they had a magical trip.

Captain David and Mate Pipio were honored to welcome Eduardo’s father and daughter and show them a great day of inshore action. Throughout the half day trip they caught three White Tunas, a Cierro Mackeral, a 20lbs. Blue Jack, a Barber Snapper and eight Bonitos. That’s a lot of rod-bending!

The highlight of the day was a 30lbs. Dorado that is unusually large for such shallow depth. Seems like he wandered inshore right into the Explorer‘s spread and Abullo Berrios knew exactly how to bring the big fish home. Great catches by all three generations of Berrios!

Check out the video that Eduardo posted to our Facebook page from the boat! This 21st century stuff is getting out of hand folks.

Surrounded by family and with excellent fish in the box; Great way to end a fantastic year for FishingNosara!
The word for ‘to lose a fish’ down here is Sanachoz, and unfortunately this dirty word got thrown around a little bit today.
Brenton and his group booked the Wanderer for the morning and went off-shore hunting for billfish. Things looked promising when they raised up a sailfish, but the bite was soft and they couldn’t get the hooks home this time.

It’s worth noting that the full moon has a profound effect on billfish surface striking behavior, plus since we are only 9 degrees N of the equator the moon stays out much longer.

Sr. Berrios in January 2011
Over on the Explorer our good buddy Eduardo Berrios brought some friends down from San Jose for a fishing trip. One of the Explorer‘s first clients back in December, Sr. Berrios is no stranger to success on the big bottom fish in Garza. This time, he had a HUGE fish on the bottom, but the big beast escaped…Sanachoz!
These kind of days are bound to happen, but keep an eye out once this moon recedes for the action to light right back up.
Our good friend Eduardo Barrios is back in Nosara. With several trips on the Wanderer under his belt, Sr. Barrios was itching to try the new Explorer. He brought his youngest daughter out and Captain David put them on some fish early and often.
“Lost track of how many black tuna,” writes Eduardo. “At least 10 plus one jack and two snappers. And of course we lost several great hits that we just couldn’t get any leverage on. Below is a pic of what we took home.”

“We also had the opportunity to see a few sting rays, a whale, lots of turtles and dolphin. My daughter absolutely loved it.”
November 14 was a big day for the Wanderer. In the morning, Matty and client Eduardo Barrios caught two little White Tunas, then deep jigged for a nice 25lbs. White Tuna. Then Matty hooked up this massive 50lbs. Cabrilla (Broomtail Grouper).

The fight was short but violent, and about three minutes after this picture was taken, Matty took a 45 minute nap in the cabin.

After picking up Craig at Garza, they went 25 miles offshore seeking the blue water.

After boating several 20-30lbs. Yellowfin Tunas, Eduardo hooked up a beautiful Striped Marlin. He put on a show, but managed to cut the line off on a stray piece of driftwood less than 100 feet from the boat. Eduardo did everything right, but the Stripey got away.

All told they caught eight Yellowfins with the big one weighing 40lbs. Great trip!
