Hall of Famer Dennis Paul returned to the Explorer for action, only this time they headed offshore about 10 miles to see what was happening in the blue water.

Early on in the trip they found a small school of Yellowfin Tuna and Dennis Paul added sushi to his menu in the form of two excellent 25lbs. Yellas.

Look at the girth on this fella:

The billfish weren’t biting as aggressively as usual in the afternoon, and I think Dennis managed to bury a hook in the reason why:

This 6-8 foot long Shark was skulking the area which most likely pushed the billfish a little more offshore. It’s neat to see a shark so close, but as we have no interst in eating it this fish was released unharmed.

It’s staff fishing day for the crew of Nosara Paradise Rentals as General Manager Javier Hernandez was joined by Marino and Grevan from the property staff for an inshore harvest on board the Explorer.

El Jefe helped break in our new set of Penn Spinfishers as the boys brought home a nice Cuberra Snapper, 8 Yellowfin Tuna (20lb.), 3 White Tuna (15lbs.) plus a small Dorado. This is the second time this week that Captain David has captured the four major meat species on a single trip and by the looks of these reports the Explorer may put the fish market out of business.

Great catches for some great guys, even Marcos is getting in on the fun!

Erin Byker booked the Super Panga for a 3/4 day on the inshore reefs and they harvests an excellent array of table fare.

These Michigan-based anglers caught a bunch of Bonitas early on then hit the jackpot with two nice 12lbs. White Tunas and a tasty Yellowfin Tuna. Great work by Captain David on the 26-foot Explorer.

After a fruitful morning with Dave Buckner, the Explorer and Captain David were pleased to welcome back three-time FishingNosara Hall of Famer Dennis Paul for his customary warm-up trip on the 28-footer. Dennis has plans to tackle the offshore monsters this week, but first-things-first…get some good edible fish to fill the fridge for the week.

Later they pulled this big Needlefish off the reef…it may look ugly but tastes delicious.

Barbara added this feisty White Tuna to the menu which includes three very different types of meat. Great array of catches by Captain David and Mate Kevin on this trip

After a three-species morning Captain David added this three more species in the afternoon…that is some amazing inshore fishing by the legendary Explorer!

Dave Buckner and his boys had a landmark day on the bar-room brawlin’ Explorer today with a 12lbs. White tuna, 30lbs. Yellowfin Tuna, and 20lbs. Dorado in the fishbox.

Such variety is not uncommon in these waters…having the tools and talent to bring them all in on the same trip is what makes the Explorer the best mid-size boat in Garza Bay!

Tom Shipley and his family’s trip to Nosara is a classic fishing tale of patient triumph.

Tom, his son Tom Jr., and daughters Alyssa and Sara scheduled long days on the super panga and showed off their unbreakable South Florida fishing meddle.

On the first two trips they had some light action but nothing to get excited about: a few Bonitas and Jack Crevelles along with some mystery nibbles.

These South Florida anglers aren’t new to the game and understand that billfishing is as much an exercise in time investment than anything else.

There was a nice Sailfish release and a tasty Rainbow runner on the second trip, but these folks had their sights set on our most powerful species: BIG Marlin!

Their patience paid off on the third day when the dam broke loose and rained billfish on Team Shipley.

This bad Blue Marlin tore off a few baits before Mate Kevin found the sweet spot on the strike lever, and Tom Sr. was all set to bring in the fish of a lifetime.

The Explorer outmaneuvered this beast and they grabbed the leader five times…clearly a release no matter where you are fishing.

The action was just beginning as Tom Jr. stepped into the fray versus a high-flying sailfish.

These South Florida anglers really showed some grit on their three-day pursuit…still a small amount of time to invest for the fish of a lifetime!

Katie Bonjean and Genivieve Torrey’s group split up between the Wanderer and Explorer today and over on the super panga Captain David reports some excellent action.

The highlight was Katie’s awesome sailfish release followed up with a second Sail released by Clayton Bonjean.

Samantha Rady braved the blue water onboard Garza’s ulimate prize fighter the Explorer. Captain David was on his game and hooked this NYC angler with not one but TWO elusive Rooster Fish!

They warmed up earlier in the trip on some Jack Crevalles before pursing the trophy fish.

Of course both Roosters were released and we look forward to them pecking at our baits again really soon.

After their banner day on the Wanderer on April 23, Robert and Joy returned to the Explorer for an inshore battle that was just as fruitful as their offshore excursions.

First off Mr. McCafferty waylaid this 30lbs. Amberjack. Remember that here on the Pacific side our Amberjack are edible and delicious, unlike the Atlantic variety.

Joy Best followed up with a fish that is delicious no matter what ocean you’re in. This tasty Yellowfin Tuna weighs about 35lbs. and is every ounce as good as it looks.

What a wonderful way to cap off a great week of fishing!

Robert McCafferty and Joy Best have a trio of trips planned this week with our team, and on their first trip Captain David of the Explorer took them offshore for a tour of Sailfish City.

The Sails were aggressive biting, but even more aggressive in hook-spitting. Still Mr. McCafferty managed to best one of these behemoths, estimated to weigh over 125 lbs.

Look out for more great fishing from this Pennsylvania-based duo this week.
