Erin Byker booked the Super Panga for a 3/4 day on the inshore reefs and they harvests an excellent array of table fare.
These Michigan-based anglers caught a bunch of Bonitas early on then hit the jackpot with two nice 12lbs. White Tunas and a tasty Yellowfin Tuna. Great work by Captain David on the 26-foot Explorer.
Dave Buckner and his boys had a landmark day on the bar-room brawlin’ Explorer today with a 12lbs. White tuna, 30lbs. Yellowfin Tuna, and 20lbs. Dorado in the fishbox.
Such variety is not uncommon in these waters…having the tools and talent to bring them all in on the same trip is what makes the Explorer the best mid-size boat in Garza Bay!
Craig Sutton was joined by Paula, Matty, and Alejandro for an afternoon of fishing on the Wanderer on May 15. Captain William gathered the intellegence from Captain David on the Explorer that a large ‘mancha’ (school) of spinning dolphin were in the area feasting on Yellowfin Tuna.
The team worked this school together as First Mate Alex and Craig tossed poppers from the foredeck while Paula and Alejandro went to work in the cockpit. Captain William and Captain David worked together to keep the fish corralled so that both boats would have maximum chances at success.
Once the bite shut down around 3pm it was once again time for an honored FishingNosara tradition: Fresh Sushi!
Rita and Stephen Greenberg are in Nosara for a fun-filled week of fishing and on their first trip they ushered in an exciting new trend for the month of May: BIG Yellowfin Tuna!
Captain William discovered a large school of porpoises feeding about 15 miles offshore; this multi-acre pod of spinning dolphins meant that the bait beneath were stacked up thick as cordwood.
Captain William put the call out on the radio and Captain David of the Explorer was quickly on the scene with client Jon Mahoney.
They worked the school together, and after a few medium-sized Yellas Fellas, their big brother enveloped a casted Jet Popper as both treble hooks found their homes.
Good thing too because monsters this size are known to rip the bearings right out of lesser plugs.
Looks like Ahi is back on the menu in Nosara! Great work by First Mate Alex and the wily hunter Captain William.
After their banner day on the Wanderer on April 23, Robert and Joy returned to the Explorer for an inshore battle that was just as fruitful as their offshore excursions.
First off Mr. McCafferty waylaid this 30lbs. Amberjack. Remember that here on the Pacific side our Amberjack are edible and delicious, unlike the Atlantic variety.
Joy Best followed up with a fish that is delicious no matter what ocean you’re in. This tasty Yellowfin Tuna weighs about 35lbs. and is every ounce as good as it looks.
What a wonderful way to cap off a great week of fishing!
One day after catching a nice Dorado on board the Adventurer client John Hicks and his lady stepped up to the Super panga and mimicked their performance with another healthy Dorado.
Things really took off for John the next day, when the Explorer encountered a mean 110lbs. Sailfish about 7 miles from shore. It took every ounce of available strength to bring this monster alongside for the release. Great work by Captain David on the wheel and Mate Carlos on the safe release.
John continued the strong fishing by dropping another 20lbs. Dorado and a 25lbs. Yellowfin Tuna into the icebox.
Bill Harris and the boys rejoined the Wanderer and followed up their Dorado haul from Wednesday with an equally fruitful Yellowfin Tuna harvest. Captain William guided the flagship about 6 miles offshore to the deep water break and started knocking out Yella Fellas on a high speed troll.
They ended up with six tasty Yellowfin Tunas in the box plus added a pair of Dorado for good measure.
This is our first big Yellowfin harvest of the season and you know that First Mate Alex was itching to get the sushi tray out. Fresh sushi on the boat is one of the FishingNosara traditions, and it always makes for some big smiles.
Bill and the boys are pumped up and have added one more fishing day on November 10. Let’s see if they have some luck with the billfish on their final day in Nosara.
Paul Crevello and the Tampa boys were back on the Wanderer today and they piled the fishbox high with big Yellowfin Tunas. Here is just a sample of the yella fellas these guys bested:
Of course once you find feeder fish of this size, it is only a matter of time before the billfish swarm in on the prey. This Sailfish was no match for the mighty Wanderer and was released around 1:30pm.
Paul and the boys are only halfway through their four-day fishing frenzy so lets hope the bite stays strong for these guys.
Richard Harris and Morgan Trible enlisted the mighty blue Wanderer for their second of three trips and the offshore harvester was ready for work; however the legendary Captain William would not be along for this trip as he recently suffered a cut to his foot.
The doctors say he will be back in action in no time, and until then the helm of the Wanderer is being manned by her long time First Mate.
Captain Alex Moreno brought along Carlos of Explorer / Adventurer fame and these two young guns put on a show for Morgan and his dad. First up was a awesome Dorado estimated to weigh 30lbs.
Close on the heels of the tasty Mahi was an equally scrumptious Yellowfin Tuna also tipping the scales north of 25lbs.
With dinner accounted for, Alex and Carlos set out the billfish spread and like clockwork a powerful Pacific Sailfish came tearing through the spread just after 1pm.
Richard Harris kept the line taut as Alex spun the Wanderer into the evasive fish. Carlos kept things in order in the cockpit and Mr. Harris released his first-ever Pacific Sailfish at just after 1:20pm.
Great work as always by the crew to keep this fish calm and unstressed for another safe release!
Morgan and Richard have one more full day on the Wanderer so lets keep our fingers crossed for continuing great action.
Client Marion Lawler III is on vacation in Costa Rica with his family and chartered the Wanderer for a 6.5 hour offshore excursion. These experienced Texas anglers turned in a magnificent performance on the FishingNosara flagship.
This Sailfish lit up the spread just after 12 o’clock and put on quite a show for young Mr. Lawler; the expression on this lads face shows what big-time sportfishing is all about.
Captain William kept this monster on a short leash with his masterful boat handling skills while First Mate Alex expertly directed the safe release.
The billfish vanished around 1:30, but over on the Explorer Captain David radioed in that he had found a large school of feeding porpoises. Captain William followed his hunch and fell in next to a pod of spinning porpoises, knowing that they would lead the Wanderer to a pot of Yellowfin gold.
Sure enough around 3pm this HUGE Yellowfin tuna was hooked up and it was Marion’s other son on the reel this time.
A beautiful Sailfish release for the trophy case and about 40lbs. of Yellowfin for the dinner table…that’s about a perfect day for Team Lawler!
