Our crew has been busting their butts on the Casa Bianca build, so they took a Saturday morning trip inshore to clear their minds and fill the refrigerator.

Javier, Antonio, and Cruz Reyes used old-fashioned handline rigs to bring in these beautiful Cubera Snappers.

Looks like many families in Nosara will be eating well tonight.

John Shellhorn and Jim Freyburger fished with Captain Carlos on the Discoverer on February 25th.

They scored a Sailfish release early in the trip, then moved inshore for a great Rooster Fish release.

They rejoined the battleship on the 26th and finished off their time in Nosara with this amazing Cubera Snapper catch and release.

Here is the email John sent us after the trip:

Hi Craig!

Finally back in country and wanted to thank you for a great trip.

My wife and her friend Mary had never caught a billfish and on the Wanderer, caught four each in two days including a double hook-up. They were thrilled and will be talking about that for a long time.

I caught a nice 38 pound rooster and my friend Jim caught a nice Cuberra snapper while fishing the last two days with Captain Carlos on the Discoverer. Although we only fished a half day on our last day, our group total for the four days of fishing came to 13 sails, 6 tuna, 1 rooster and 1 snapper.

You guys have an excellent operation and we had an awesome trip! Your staff are incredible at their jobs and your facility offers world class fishing! It was great to get to spend a little time with you and we are really appreciative of an awesome trip. Will continue to spread the word (and pictures).

Pura Vida!

Captain Fico delivered the goods for Corey LaChance’s group on February 3 with some thrilling Sailfish releases.

Guys, it’s called “release” for a reason!

They worked up their appetite’s while swimming, so it’s fortunate that they nagged these meat fish for sustenance.

They kept the Dorados and Yellowfins but released the Cubera Snappers:

They retired to Nosara Paradise Rentals for a nice soak in the pool, followed by a mammoth fish feast.

Here is a sample from Josie LaChance’s Facebook post:

Pura Vida!
โ€œpure lifeโ€; to live a peaceful, simple existence full of happiness, satisfaction, well-being, and deep love for nature, family, and friends.

What an incredible fishing trip with friends to Nosora, Costa Rica.

We ate great food.. we had a ton of fun… and caught a few fish.

โœ”๏ธ7 sailfish
โœ”๏ธ5 Yellowfin tuna
โœ”๏ธ3 cubera snapper
โœ”๏ธ2 mahi mahi

We will never forget โ€œthe one that got away… the fish of a lifetime.โ€
The guys worked on a gigantic yellowfin tuna for 3 hours…. as soon as we got a good look it it… the line snapped.
The guys are still very sensitive about this.
Iโ€™m not sure how big it was… every day it gets bigger and bigger. Today the guys are estimating it was a good 400lbs. Ha.

Even though the fish of a lifetime got away we still had a great time fishing!
Sam and Cory swam with Sailfish…
Allison and Cindy went offshore for their first time… and caught a sailfish.

Most importantly, Jon caught dinner!

Pura Vida!

Theย Explorer posted a very contradictory scorecard on January 16; on one hand they caught two memorable fish but on the other hand both had to be released.

We’ve put a self-imposed restriction on these big Cubera Snappers. When they are this big we chose to release them for the health of the fishery.

Big or small, we want nothing to do with this Shark:

Still a great day of rod-bending fun on the barroom brawler Explorer.
