The Explorer welcomed Ohio anglers Kevin and Mary Ann Dineen for a landmark day of fish harvesting.

This foursome of fishermen got down to business quickly, with each party member scoring a Dorado early in the trip.

Then the monster Dorado came calling!

After this wad of Mahi-Mahi’s on ice, it’s easy to think that the Explorer would call it a day…but that ain’t how the barroom brawler gets down!

The final fish of the day was a MASSIVE Wahoo:

I think we need a bigger cooler…Amazing that this monster’s tail is almost still in the water!

Easily the biggest Wahoo of the year, this monster might weigh north of 70lbs.

Sheesh, the picture weighs 5 pounds!

Great work by the unstoppable Explorer!
Captain David on the Discoverer has been on a tear all month. Along with trusty Mate Juan Carlos the new battleship has scored victories on a wide array of Marlin and Sailfish. plus added lots of good eating fish for the filet bag.

This Marlin was a feisty fighter, clean released as usual by Mate Juan Carlos. The Sailfish have been coming into the spread in droves and Captain David has capitalized big time.

Finally, check out the girth on these Dorados and the numbers of these Tunas:

Great work by Captain David!
The Discoverer and client Amy Hamrick braved high winds to get out to Sailfish City on the 26th.

Captain David was fearless in the face of the gale and Amy scored this beautiful Sailfish release.

Great fish-handling by Mate Juan Carlos was the perfect finish to a challenging day on the water.

Becky and the boys stayed on target with more Sailfish releases and Dorado action on January 22.

They have really found a groove this week and these consistent scores really speak to the quality of the Captain, Mate, and Anglers all working together.

Becky has one more trip planned this week so let’s hope they can keep their red-hot streak alive!
The Explorer delivered the goods for client Colin Pisano with a whole refrigerator full of fresh filets.

They snagged four Dorados (20lbs.-25lbs.) plus scored a quartet of White Tunas.

Dinner’s on!
It’s no secret that Nosara enjoys the closest proximity to the blue water in all of Costa Rica.

It may surprise you to learn that our specific stretch of ocean is so fertile and untouched that (when the money is on the line) million-dollar sportfishing teams make the trek from Los Suenos to try to score in our backyard.
So it turns out that this week is the Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown and look what turned up:

In just this one picture there are 13 other boats:

Think that all this competition would mean tough times for the flagship Wanderer?

Think again!

The Hogan Family scored like they were the only boat on the water, boasting multiple Sailfish releases backed up by big Dorados.

Got to admit it’s pretty cool watching Captain William and First Mate Alex fish circles around these so-called pros…just cause you got a big boat and money to burn doesn’t mean your a master!
Becky Hogan is one tough-as-nails angler from Northeast Florida, and on her past trips with us she has scored big on Sailfish and Marlin.

This year she brought her whole family down for the adventure, including her two son’s whose military schedules required that this trip be planned far in advance.
Captain William set course for Sailfish City and immediately the Hogan family snagged the first of five pez velas.

Safe releases all around by First Mate Alex.

They topped off the trip with the biggest Ponpano we’ve ever seen:

Seriously, we usually don’t even include this species in our fishing report because of their relative abundance but this manhole-cover sized beast will make enough ceviche to feed a village!
Captain David is kicking billfish butt on the Discoverer and on the 18th client Robert Preston and his friends scored this impressive Striped Marlin:

A true fish of a lifetime by anyone’s standard!
They also scored this nice Dorado for the icebox:

Here’s what Bob had to say:
“Craig, our group had a great fishing experience during the week of January 18, 2015. Our group included 1 – 84 year old, 1 – 74 year old (me) 2 – 66 year old, 1 – 63 year old and a 41 year old. (Feel free to advertise in the AARP magazine.)
Fantastic work from the battleship Discoverer!
