Fantastic weekend of fishing for client Elliot and his posse. On Saturday they kicked off the morning on the Wanderer and caught a MASSIVE Cuberra Snapper. In the afternoon they went offshore and raised a few billfish.

Then on Sunday they accompanied Captain David on the Explorer for an inshore tuna hunt up and down the reefline. They action was intense with many multiple hook-ups and lots of surface activity.

then moved inshore where the fishing was on fire! The Yellowfin bite would not let up until the fishbox was literaly stuffed. Thank goodness we are so close to shore because there was no way to close the cooler.

They packed the fishbox of the Super Panga with 22 Yellowfin tunas by days end. Great work Elliot and crew!

Old fishing saying: When the bite gets soft, the tough get hard.

With the full moon still hanging like a noose over the blue water, David Dahl and the rest of his Northeast Florida fishing posse came to town looking to break the slump. Some of the best catches in the Fishing Nosara Hall of Fame come from Florida’s First Coast, and sure enough David Dahl from Duval had a great day fishing.

The bite was slow at first, but shortly after noon they raised up the first sailfish. Then a Marlin came tearing through the spread and began laying waste to the spread. Two more sailfish came calling throughout the day and by the end of the trip they had raised a total of four billfish and released one beautiful Pacific Sailfish.

Nice weather and great action today. Over on the Explorer client Rory Lavechia caught Black tunas and Jacks on a morning trip. Meanwhile over on the Wanderer client Joseph Accarino 15 Black tunas and several jacks in just 3.5 hours.

When the morning is this hot, you know the afternoon billfish feed is going to be crazy, and sure enough client Stephen nailed a fantastic Sailfish in the afternoon.

To finish off the evening, client Brian Jones was with Captain Vibert on the Cabo and caught 10 Black tunas on a 2.5 hour Sunset fishing trip. Busy day for the FishingNosara team, but some great catches and satisfied clients to show for it.

Great news from the Explorer! Client George Shipley had a banner day on the 26′ Super Panga with the boat’s first ever Double Billfish day. Captain David pointed the Explorer just a little more offshore than usual, and just like that this 200lbs.+ Striped Marlin came tearing through the spread.


A quick fight and a photograph later, then it was time to get the lines back out and go for number two. Before long they had nabbed this 100lbs. Sailfish to complete the day.


These are outstanding results for just a 5 hr. trip, and Captain David has shown that the Explorer can deliver great fishing action usually thought possible on boats twice her size.

It’s that time of year when the billfish are lighting it up! The Wanderer welcomed longtime Canadian charter Captain Rick Stanley and his bunch for an offshore billfish hunt and they had some incredible action.


The were raising marlins all day and got the hooks buried into two of the big blue ladies, but both managed to spit the hook and escape. However, the day was saved by a late-day 90lbs. Sailfish release.

The Explorer is rocking and rolling! Captain David has been putting clients on all kinds of fish in the last three weeks, and now he is bringing in the billfish.

Client Steve Levine and his son Alex hooked up this beautiful Sailfish while fishing with Captain David on the Explorer. Steve spent three awesome days on the Wanderer this week as well, and believe me the billfish are glad to see him go!

On August 6th client Scott McKee and his friends were on the Wanderer for the first of three full days fishing. On the first trip they caught a nice-sized Dorado and hooked up but lost a pair of Sailfish.

August 7th was the high point for Scott McKee’s party as they caught two fish of a lifetime. First up was this 100lbs. Sailfish (above) that put on a real show for these anglers. After a safe release, they set their sights on the big daddy Blue Marlin.

What a fight! This guy was a heck of a catch and he wanted no part of a photo session. This is as close as he felt like coming, and Scott clearly had no problem with that. The party rounded out their trip on the 3rd day with a nice Yellowfin tuna and a brutish Amberjack.


August 5, 2010

On August 3rd we welcomed our new friend Travis Tabor for the first of five full days fishing. Travis is a fellow First Coaster (he hails from St. Augustine) and he brought some trademark Florida enthusiasm with him.

The first day was a little slow, but his second trip things picked up in a big way. On August 4th Travis started off the day with two awesome Sailfish releases.

Then a big bad Blue Marlin came tearing through the spread and hit the high speed marlin rig like a steam locomotive. After a brief but vigorous fight, they boated and released this incredible Blue Marlin.




August 5th was full of action but with more humble results. Captain William put Travis on a couple of Sailfish, but they managed to escape this time. They rounded out the evening on the inshore reef and filled the sushi trays with an assortment of tunas.

With the Sailfish and Marlin in the bag, Travis decided to make a run at the legendary Costa Rica Grand Slam. Next up was the red devil known as Cuberra Snapper.

Using FishingNosara’s exclusive Cuberra Fishing Tactic, Mr. Tabor hauled in this evil looking 45lbs. Cuberra off the bottom despite this species’ reputation for fighting like the devil. Nice smile by the way!

Could Travis catch the elusive Rooster Fish and complete the Costa Rica Grand Slam? The suspense would build as we’d have to wait a few days to find out.

July 30th was a busy day on the Wanderer. First, client Jody Barone was on board for a half-day fishing for the big billfish. They trolled all over the area and got lots of bites. Unfortunately they lost a big Marlin but they hooked up some Sails.

It was all smiles by the end of the day; they had caught and released two MASSIVE 100lbs. Sailfish. Awesome job!




Captain William and the crew barely had time to say goodbye to Jody because the Wanderer was booked for a Sunset cruise that evening.
