Henry Martinez had a huge day of offshore bill collecting on the famous Wanderer. Captain William felt that the blue water would yield big bills and pointed the blue beauty offshore.

The first big Sailfish tore up three baits before finally finding the hook, and an excited Mr. Martinez reeled her in like an old pro.

An additional big Sail came calling around 10:30 and the mighty Wanderer stood tall, notching another release to the scorecard.

By the time the final two Sailfish came in, Henry showed the confidence of an experienced deckhand by not just catching the fish, but also billing and releasing her. Under First Mate Alex’ supervision Henry released the fourth and final two sailfish of the trip.

Excellent fishing by this New Jersey-based angler!

Dr. Michelle Sanor had a full day trip on the Wanderer that stands out as the best single trip of the season so far. Her group of Oklahoma anglers released a Marlin and a Sailfish, plus addedย  30lbs. Dorado for the dinner table.

The Sailfish was the first hit of the day, coming around 10:30am. This beauty came alongside after a 20 minute fight and First Mate Alex safe released her as always.

The billfish bite tend to turn off between noon and 1:30pm, so the wise Captain William switched up the baits to target the medium-sized Dorado that have stacking up in our stretch of ocean. Sure enough they got dinner squared away with this 30lbs. Dorado in the boat around 1:15pm.

There is an old saying: ” The longer you fish, the more you will catch.” This seemingly simple axiom was proven in the second half of the Sanor group’s day on the water, when just after 3pm something MASSIVE hit a ballyhoo and gulped the hook.

After a brief but breathtaking battle this behemoth bellied up to the boat. Estimated by Alex to weigh 300+lbs., this Blue Marlin is a devastating hunter and a true fish of a lifetime.

Alex executed a safe revival and release and we are proud to report that this monster swam away unharmed and will be back for more someday soon.

Once again the mighty Wanderer with Captain William and First Mate Alex proves why she is the best boat in the bay, and maybe in all of Costa Rica.

Judith Cristchell and her friends enjoyed a picturesque sunset cruise on the spacious Wanderer. These quick 2.5 hour trips are just right to take in the vistas and watch dolphins mingle with lazy turtles;

All that, plus these guys and gals also had some fine action on the reels!

These feisty Jack Crevelles couldn’t resist the Planer / Spoon rig and they lined up to pile into the fishbox. Looks like everyone was pumped up to get some fish in the boat.

Well almost everyone!

All smiles on another memorable and productive sunset cruise on the flagship Wanderer.

John Calderaro is a local fella who loves to fish. His name dots the upcoming fishing calender like sprinkles on a doughnut, and on a recent half-day excursion on the flagship Wanderer his crew lit up the offshore Dorados.

The Dorado bite has been unstoppable in recent weeks and this posse got all they could handle from the green beasts.

Great work by Captain William and First Mate Alex as once again the mighty Wanderer brings home the filets for her clients.

Francois Bernier has been in Nosara since November and has waited patiently for his turn offshore on the mighty Wanderer. He scored some excellent Dorado on the Explorer last month and we are stoked to report that the greens kept coming in for him and his group on this trip.

Francois was joined by Mark and Paige Patrizio of New Jersey and the whole group had a blast.

“I thought a trip on the great blue would cheer them up a little,” wrote Mr. Bernier in an email. “And it did… Although we set out for sailfish, we took in four respectable dorados. The team of William and Alex is simply exceptional.”

By mid-day they had three fish in the box, and added some more action later in the day. “Paige had her first experience reeling in a fish without external assistance and she caught it like a pro. The nice fresh lunch thrown in was a pleasant surprise. I tell you, all aspects of this day were top-notch.”

Way to go Francois, Mark, and Paige on a fruitful day of marine life harvesting on the Wanderer!

Duncan Evans hails from merry old England and brought his group to Nosara for a full day fishing excursion on the Wanderer. The mighty flagship build upon her wonderful performance earlier in the week by adding another massive Marlin release to the scorecard.

We’ve always said that if you want the fish of a lifetime, you have to put in the time. Duncan made a wise decision by opting for the full day trip rather than a half or 3/4 day trip. Big game offshore fishing is like any other investment: the more your put in the more you get back.

The illuminated tiger stripes means that this fish was reeled in posthaste and has lots of energy left in her tank. First Mate Alex showed extreme care in the handling of this “still-green” Marlin to ensure the safety of the boat, crew, anglers and of course the fish.

This fish swam away clean and we look forward to battling her again really soon. Excellent catch by Duncan Evans and truly the fish of a lifetime!

Hall of Famer Chuck Darner was sitting in church between his two grown sons a few weeks ago and had a vision. He wrote the vision down on the corner of the weekly bulletin and handed it to his sons. It read, “Let’s go fishing in Costa.”

While Chuck has visited us several times, his sons had not yet taken the adventure. Tickets bought and trips booked, but then a change of plans! One of the boys is a freelance insurance adjuster and his special skills were placed in high demand in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

He couldn’t get away for this trip, but the Darner posse found a worthy pinch hitter in the form of Chuck’s 14 year-old grandson.

Chuck told me that he was hoping to get the youngster on a nice Sailfish, but unfortunately the mighty Wanderer could not find a sail on this trip.

The season’s first Black Marlin release will have to suffice!

This magnificent fish is the culmination of Captain William and the Wanderer‘s prowess and Chuck Darner’s indomitable fishing spirit.

For the dinner table they whacked this 50lbs. Wahoo which is reminiscent of the monsters Chuck catches off the ledge in Jacksonville in his Powercat High Roller.

The Darner Boys have several more trips on the books and we anticipate some more inspired from these North Florida anglers.

The Wanderer was pleased to welcome Brooklyn’s own Timothy Matusch for an fun-filled day of action on November 27. They stayed with what has been working recently, namely targeting the tasty green gold called Dorado.

The blue beauty performed admirably with four fantastic Dorados on ice by trip’s end. These tasty filets should provide many magnificent meals of Mahi-Mahi.

Hulsey Bray signed up the mighty Wanderer for a full day excursion on November 24 and once again the blue beauty delivered the goods. Captain William used the time-honored hunting tactic of following schools of spinning dolphin to the target zone.

As the smartest creature in the sea and man’s closest genetic marine equivalent, dolphins are a fisherman’s ally because they corral smaller baitfish into spherical pods.

These pods are feeding beacons to larger pelagics (Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Marlin, etc.) so it’s no suprise that Hulsey pulled this monster Pacific Sailfish right out from under the feeding frenzy.

This beast is estimated to weigh 100lbs. and is a sign of good fishing to come in the next few weeks. Another great release by the famous Wanderer.
