Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic

FishingNosara was honored to award the second annual FishingNosara Family Cup to the Cabler Family at the Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic on May 11-12, 2012.

Captain Cru accepted the award on for the family. They have won a week of fun and fishing in Nosara and we can’t wait to welcome this family to our little slice of paradise.

Don’t forget to read up on the fun had by last years’ FishingNosara Family Cup winners Team Ganoe.

This event has grown over the years into one of the biggest soirees on the Jacksonville fishing scene; this year’s highlights included a speech from Mayor Alvin Brown, a captain’s meeting hosted by radio celebrities Kirk Waltz and Kevin Faver plus thousands of dollars worth of prizes raffled of to a room full of eager and excited anglers.

Special thanks to Kayak Mike of JaxKayak.com for making this event super special. We can’t wait til next year and the third annual FishingNosara Family Cup.

The tasty green Dorados are back in the area and the Wanderer is doing all she can to stay on top of them. On the morning of May 12 client Lion caught three of these Mahi-Mahi with the big one weighing over 25lbs. For some reason chose to take a picture with the smallest one.

This came on the heels of client Kate knocking out 5 Dorados on a 2.5hr. Sunset trip the night prior. Clearly the Wanderer is apt to adapt her tactics as the bite changes.ย

The Rick Blackburn and Chuck Harris group capped off their intense week of fishing with some near misses on legendary fish, but managed to salvage the day with four Dorados for the dinner table and one more Sailfish release.

Here’s Rick with at the Sailfish petting zoo. They raised a marlin on the teaser but couldn’t coax the big girl to eat. Still this was a great conclusion to a very active week of fishing.

You know Chuck had a blast because he has already booked his next Costa Rica fishing adventure…could Chuck Harris be the first three-time FishingNosara Hall of Famer? We’ll have to wait and see.

May 8, 2012 – Day 28

Matty and Captain Jack have really bad luck when it comes to rainstorms during FishingNosara projects. Let’s check the highlights:

Loading 10 golf carts into a container with only a pickup truck and one set of ATV ramps? Freezing rain.

Building a pallet with all the gear for the Adventurer? Hot muggy rain.

Pulling the tower off of the Discoverer? Lighting storm with ample rain.

Unfortunately we didn’t get many pictures of this deal since Marcus was bolding defying logic by operating the megacrane in a lightning storm; I love the guts on a guy who says, “The radar says we gotta shut down in 10 minutes…I think we got time!”

You can tell by the rain slick on the floor that we barely made it in time. It’s too bad they don’t put forklift driving in the Olympics because Marcus would bring home the gold every time.

Captain Jack and Matty utilized the forklift to hold the tower up while they built a pallet-style support for the tower to rest on. This level platform will be the canvas upon which Craig Jr. executes his welding magic so it needs to be strong and keep the tower square.

Once the rain cleared up we used a borrowed trailer to haul this monstrosity back to our shop. We’ll be setting this aside for a while as we continue to seek out a buyer for the inboard motor and settle on just the right trailer for this boat. For now we are one step closer to getting this boat on the road!

May 8, 2012

Things have stayed lit up for Chuck Harris and Rick Blackburn’s group as once again we have report of a mighty billfish released. This monster Sailfish came calling at 10am and was no match for this team of seasoned FishingNosara Hall of Famers.

Another safe release as always by First Mate Alex.

Later in the day this sandwich-size Dorado came onboard to give Chuck a little kiss. How sweet!

May 7, 2012

Team Harris wore them out again today on the mighty Wanderer with a GIGANTIC Marlin release! This Blue beastie is conservatively estimated to weigh 375lbs., though since we left her in the water it’s all a guess.

What an incredible run these fellas are on! This is their second Marlin in two days and they have more hunting planned this week. Stay tuned for some more great catches from these anglers.
