Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament – July 17-23, 2011

FishingNosara and Nosara Paradise Rentals were super-stoked to be a sponsor and exhibitor of the 2011 Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament once again. This tournament is the mother of all Kingfish Tournaments and FishingNosara has pulled out all the stops for this great week of fishing.

A free trip to Costa Rica was raffled to one lucky winner. Also we were running a complementary shuttle service in our brand-new 6 Passenger Safari Cart from the parking lots to the main tournament entrance.

Of course there we were loading people down with coasters, coozies, hats, shirts and tons more promo items. But the biggest moment of the weekend was this cover shot from the Florida Times Union:

Nice shirt and hat fellas!

What an great weekend for all the Jacksonville-based friends and family of FishingNosara! Both our sponsored boats made it to the leaderboard and the big winner was one of our favorite clients from the 2011 season.

Captain Jack on the Drifter II made his first run in the tournament and weighing in a nice 15lbs. Kingfish. With over 250 boats in the event and only 50 reporting to the scales, Captain Jack effectively is in the upper fifth of Jacksonville anglers in the tournament.

Over on the Fishtastic Craig Sutton, Mate Andrew Herbenick and Paula Price had rough luck the first day, but saved the weekend with a 28.75lbs. Kingfish that put them in the top 20. Great performance from a boat that always catches fish.

The big winner was none other than Eddie McGowan on the Tail Chaser. You remember Eddie, right?

Just a few short months ago Mr. McGowan had a fantastic week of fishing with Captain David on the Explorer. Clearly the time with a world-class angler like Captain David had an effect on Eddie and helped him win his first major Kingfish title.

Captain David sends along his best wishes and is very happy to hear of Eddie’s great tournament winning catch. Great work by Eddie McGowan and the rest of the FishingNosara team!

Kingbuster 400 – June 10-12, 2011

FishingNosara and Nosara Paradise Rentals were pleased to sponsor the Kingbuster 400 Tournament in St. Augustine, FL. This was the first major King Mackeral tournament of the season and one with a long history of ‘setting the tone’ for the tournament season.

This year’s format was a single day Saturday shootout with the biggest fish taking home the prize. US Representative for FishingNosara Craig Sutton and the A-team (First Mate Carl Schmidt, Mate Andrew Herbenick, and Ms. Paula) on the Fishtastic caught a few decent Kingfish, but none worth writing home about.

Over 70 Junior Anglers participated on Friday with the winning Kingfish weighing in at an astounding 42lbs.; on Saturday the general tournament endured some rough seas and soft biting fish but still saw some 30lbs.-40lbs. King Mackerels in the box. Extra special thanks are due to Captain Don Dingman (Hook the Future) and Frank Joura for making this tournament a huge success. We can’t wait to do it again next year.

Tom Cavin (left, grey shirt) and his girls celebrate their winning raffle ticket

It was an especially exciting day for Mr. Tom Cavin of Jacksonville who won a week in Casa Capitan and a half-day fishing with Captain David on the Explorer. He is aiming to bring the whole family down for the week sometime in August or November, and we are stoked to roll out the red carpet for him.

Great end to a great weekend!

Today was an absolutely perfect day for a boat show. The weather was perfect and a thick crowd of people flooded Metropolian Park for the last day of the Southeast US Boat Show.

The raffle box was bursting at the seams when we picked the recipient of a week in Casa Capitan and fishing trip with Captain David on the Explorer or a Safari Tour. Drum roll please…

The winner of the Southeast US Boat Show Raffle is Mr. Jeff D Norton!

Great boat show all around, with special praises due to Jimmy Hill and his incredible staff lead by Stephanie. Current Productions did an outstanding job dealing with crazy weather, hundreds of boats on land and a few dozen more at sea. Excellent work…we had a great time!

Make fast the sails! With sustained 30 knot winds and gusts over 60, it felt more like sailing than a boat show on Saturday. With help from our neighboring vendors we managed to keep the tent in one piece and not fly away to the land of Oz.

Despite the gusty conditions, several boating enthusiasts braved the elements to take in another day of fine offerings from all things marine. Major respect for the other vendors and for Jimmy Hill, Stephanie, and Bonnie for remaining calm in the center of this windstorm. The show must go on, and it was still an excellent day.

The forecast calls for perfection tomorrow, so if the wind kept you in make sure that tomorrow you find a way to come on down to the Southeast US Boat Show.

Great first day at the Southeast US Boat Show. Our free raffle for the trip to Costa Rica has already created a buzz around the park, plus have had lots of interest in T-shirts and hats.

Of course, the real event today was the bikini contest. Here is the winning gal (sorry for the grainy photo; I was jostling for position with about 50 other people).

All told we are having a great time. C’mon down and see us this weekend!

To all our Northeast Florida Friends,

Come and visit us at the Jacksonville Boat Show this weekend at Prime Osborn Convention Center. FishingNosara will have multiple booths and we will be giving away a Costa Rica Vacation to one lucky raffle winner. Come on out and show your support!

Meanwhile back in Nosara, the Explorer has quite a knack for catching lots of fish in a short time. Yesterday, Hoover caught on the four nice jacks and saw lots of turtles on just a 2.5 hr morning trip.

2010 Ancient City Kingfish Challenge

37.70lbs. King Mackeral caught by Craig Sutton on Fishtastic.

Captain Craig Sutton and the Fishtastic came in second place in this year’s tournament. First Mate Carl, Andrew, and Paula were on the crew for the catch, which was in first for the whole first day and most of the final day, but that’s fishing.

We were honored to give away a week in Nosara to the lucky winner of the raffle. Great work by the crew, the staff, and Capitan Craig!
