Showing extreme dedication to the hunt, Ed Smith finally scored a Cubera Snapper on the Explorer.

Ed writes: “Finally checked the Cubera Snapper off the list. Carlos and crew worked hard for 3 days and it finally paid off.”

“You know the days gonna be good when you hook up a wahoo first (instead of the bonita we were trying to catch for bait).”

“Craig, we’ve had a great time so far, love the house, the crew, the town and the surf – can you just the roads fixed?”

He also scored another great Yellowfin Tuna and a Yellowtail Snapper. That’s a boatload of filets!

Man we love California anglers! A good friend of Shea McIntee (of Stoked on Fishing fame) named Ed Smith has brought his boys down to Nosara for a fun week of surfing and fishing.

On August 17 young Sean scored this excellent Sailfish release on the Explorer.

Ed writes: “Sean joined the billfish club today with his first sailfish on light gear.”

“I on the other hand came closer to my cubera snapper goal, losing a monster on a big popper in a few feet of water.”

“Nothing like seeing a 12-inch wide tail/back come crashing down on the jig! Off to buy more poppers tomorrow!”

ย Still, Ed scored some excellent eating fish with a Yellowfin Tuna, Ponpano, and Snapper all on ice.

Charlie Phillips’ posse saved the best for last, as on their final day of fishing on the Wanderer they scored a DOUBLE MASSIVE Marlin release.

We have some great video of this beast so look out for the full account on the next FishingNosara DVD due out this month.

The crew also added to their pile of filets…after a great day inshore on the 14th, they caught a whole bunch of filets to take home on the 15th.

Charlie Phillips stayed inshore today and knocked a big Rooster Fish off of his bucket list.

This catch as been a long time coming for this Everglades angler, and we are stoked to see this accomplishment.

The group also added tasty filets for the dinner table in the form of three nice Snappers and a pile of Yellowfin Tuna.

Looking good in the ice box and on the dinner plate!

The Wanderer stayed inshore with Doug and Andrew and scored a nice Snapper for the icebox.

They also fought a medium-sized Rooster Fish all the way to the boat, but First Mate Alex felt it was too weakened to be brought into the boat, so they released him alongside.

Another marked-up scorecard by Doug Dickman and Andrew Queral.

David Washburn brought the kids along for an inshore fish hunt, and the mighty Wanderer reaped the rewards with a wide variety of filets in the box.

This respectable Rock Snapper kicked off the action, and several more of the tasty red morsels found their way on board.

After the early flurry of action, Mr. Washburn got a strike from a BIG fish and had to use the fighting chair to battle this fish with spinning tackle.

ย

Usually we use this thing for skyrocketing Marlin, so everyone was looking forward to seeing what kind of monster was tied to this reel.

BOOM! This 50+lbs. Rooster fish was live released after a few quick pictures.

ย Great fishing from a great family on the mighty Wanderer.

Sweet Rooster Fish score on the Adventurer today for client Maciek Sabodacha. The 23-footer stayed inshore and nabbed this handsome fellow:

As usual, this fish was released after the photo. But don’t think these boys didn’t get any filets on the straight razor.

These nice Snappers will make for a festive dinner for sure…Great work!

A swarm of Rooster fish have hit the area around Garza Bay and Captain David has put the Discoverer neck deep in the middle of them. Check out this nice 25lbs. specimen caught on July 2:

The next day the battleship welcomed a nice family of anglers and scored a nice Yellowfin Tuna backed up with a meaty Mangrove Snapper:
