Client Leonard Robinson of Utah joined the Explorer for his second time offshore on May 31 and scored a sweet Sailfish release. Safe released as always by Mate Kevin.

They also scored a handful of Yellowfin Tuna which yielded tasty dense filets.

Later on the beach they discovered a wayward handline rig; this staple of Costa Rican shore fishing is devestaingly simple and features a modern twist with a DOA Jighead.

“I had the experience of a lifetime thanks to the crew of the Explorer.” Leonard wrote in an email. “I will be a return customer!!! Pura Vida.”

Client Max Kellogg scored a mighty Marlin with the flagship Wanderer on May 2.

This high-flying monster put up a heck of a fight, but Max kept the heat on her aided by Captain William’s masterful boat handling:

Look carefully at the :08 mark…How the heck does he keep perfect pace to keep the Marlin alongside while still sneaking out from behind the wheel to take this picture?

Cause he is a badass. That’s how.

Nice fish-handling by First Mate Alex to see the fish and angler safely separated to fight another day.

Max followed up this fish of a lifetime with a few Sailfish releases.

ย

Then they closed out the day with a picture-perfect Rooster fish release.

“We just got back.ย  Got a 300# Blue, 2 decent sized Sailfish, and a nice Rooster, probably 40#+. ย  Lost a couple of small dorado. ย  ย Came in about 2:30. ย  Great trip – perfect conditions!”

It’s unusual for us to get an email from a client mere minutes after they get back to shore, but Roy Jackson hit us up with the email titled: Awesome Day!

“4 sails and one 400 lb marlin. Got some great HD video of the marlin on the gopro. That was a long 45 minutes to land it.

Now let’s enjoy some photos from this fight:

The rest of the day had strong action for Roy and the whole family.

The kids really put on a show with a Double Sailfish release, expertly coordinated by First Mate Alex.

It’s always great to see youngsters posting such great results. Fantastic fishing day by the Jackson family and the mighty Wanderer!

We got a great note from Becky once she got back to Florida:
“Cant wait to tell you all about the trip.ย  William and Alex will always be number one to us…..just way too much fun in a week!!ย  We finally captured the elusive rooster fish, the morning Andy was on his way to the airport….laughed about that!”

“Have some great underwater shots we took with the gopro too!ย  Total count for the week is 21 sails released (could have been more, but we targeted Marlin our last day with four teasers and one big lure…..no Marlin but no worries…….too much fun trying!)”ย

“The second day we fished and released 10 sails (once again, if we wanted more it would have been no problem, but we wanted to enjoy one fish at a time because Alexa and Crystian had never done it).ย  We did reel up a double with Andy and Minton because we could!ย  Best family vacation ever!”

Captain David is kicking billfish butt on the Discoverer and on the 18th client Robert Preston and his friends scored this impressive Striped Marlin:

A true fish of a lifetime by anyone’s standard!

They also scored this nice Dorado for the icebox:

Here’s what Bob had to say:

“Craig, our group had a great fishing experience during the week of January 18, 2015. ย Our group included 1 – 84 year old, 1 – 74 year old (me) 2 – 66 year old, 1 – 63 year old and a 41 year old. (Feel free to advertise in the AARP magazine.)ย

Our crew, Captain David and 1st Mate Juan-Carlos, was top notch.ย  The Discover was a pristine vessel and the equipment was in excellent condition.
ย
Our catch record included: 6 sails, 1 striped marlin (in the photo on the latest FishingNosara report โ€“ the angler was 84 year old Ed Malinowski) 2 blue marlin (1 hook up and one leader touch), 5 yellow fin tuna, many Mahi-Mahi and 1 Cubera snapper โ€“ we had a leader touch on the snapper but Captain David said it doesnโ€™t count (we are still taking credit for it).”

Fantastic work from the battleship Discoverer!

Ray Anderson and his boys had a fantastic trip on the Discoverer. Here’s what Ray sent to us via email:

Craig – Great trip on the Discoverer yesterday.ย ย

My two sons and I caught 3 sailfish (one was 100 lbs), and 5 large dorado.ย ย

Captain David and Juan Carlos were the best.

Could not have asked for a better time.ย ย  We will be back.ย

Roger Bowgen and his family scored big on the Wanderer with a nice Striped Marlin:

Masterful fish handling by First Mate Alex means that we will see this beauty again down the road.

These Connecticut anglers also notched the scorecard with two nice Sailfish releases and tasty Dorados on ice.

Roger was all smiles when they got home. “We had a great time on the 18th December on the Wanderer,” he wrote in his email. “Capt. William and Alex are certainly a five star team.”

Great trip by the Master Captain William and the flagship Wanderer!

Larry MacInnis was staying about 20km up the road from Nosara, but a hardened angler like Larry knows that is it worth a short drive to get hooked up with the best fishing team in the country.

He booked the flagship for a 6.5 hour excursion and they had great success.

Let’s have Larry tell the tale:

Craig,

We had a great day of fishing on Dec. 1, 2014 aboard the Wanderer with Captain William and First mate Alex.

Those guys are real pros and had us on fish most of the day.

Caught 4 Dorado and 6 Sailfish and we appreciated the concern Alex had for the well being of the Sailfish keeping them out of the water only long enough for the photos.

Thanks for a memorable day. We hope to return.
Take care,
Larry MacInnis

Showing extreme dedication to the hunt, Ed Smith finally scored a Cubera Snapper on the Explorer.

Ed writes: “Finally checked the Cubera Snapper off the list. Carlos and crew worked hard for 3 days and it finally paid off.”

“You know the days gonna be good when you hook up a wahoo first (instead of the bonita we were trying to catch for bait).”

“Craig, we’ve had a great time so far, love the house, the crew, the town and the surf – can you just the roads fixed?”

He also scored another great Yellowfin Tuna and a Yellowtail Snapper. That’s a boatload of filets!
